It takes place over two strips, discounting the ones that focus more on establishing the circumstances. In the first, she spends five panels hurling accusations at Fluffle, three panels reading the letter and opening the gift and by panel nine, she hasn’t a hint of bitterness in her. In the second strip, she spends two panels talking and the rest hugging.
Throughout the blog, she stays in Ponyville and is frequently subject to Fluffle’s antics. After her “big change in ideology”, she still does that, but in a different crown. It’s a comedic work returning to the status quo, as it was always going to.
@Chrysipuff
Her meekness is part of it, but I find that’s more of a gripe I have with AFP’s Chrysalis in general.
@OtherFritz
Ah, I thought you meant how Chrysalis is more wimpy and submissive to Fluffle Puff as opposed to being proud and fearful, but you did bring some good points.
@OtherFritz
Oh wow yeah comedy relief can’t be character specific, and you took stuff way to seriously, like eldritch nature (Hmm its like Pinkie Pie).
Threathened with a whip, I’m not sure if you are serious at all
It’s not quick at all it was actually quite slow and very good subtle progression but if its not pushed into throat then its sudden… yeah no
Big change in ideology but not 180 of character is little, what? And crown is symbolism of what she got through.
-It’s essentially an Esoteric Happy Ending. The general comedic levity of AFP justifies the use of elements that simply don’t suit a more serious work. When the tone shifts to dramatic and emotional, Fluffle’s comedic sociopathy and eldritch nature undermines the entire wholesome image. To put it frankly, the audience is expected to be happy that Chrysalis has come to love the fluff creature that has threatened her with a whip and worships a dangerous alien artefact.
-It’s too quick and easy, especially given the context. Chrysalis reforms because she read a letter and received a gift from the same ponylike creature she was blaming for her loss of status no more than three panels ago. Methinks there ought to be more steps than that to go from bitter disgraced queen to “your Chryssi”.
-It changes very little. In AFP, Chrysalis is effectively reformed already. There is little significant difference between pre-reform and post-reform Chrysalis, with the exception of her wearing a slightly different crown. As far as I can tell, her relationship with Fluffle doesn’t really change either. In essence, the entire event is redundant.
TL;DR: Context and a focus on the ship creates unpleasant implications and prevents any meaningful change.
@icey wicey 1517
Kinda a horrifying thought now that you bring that up. But didn’t MLP movie credits and one of the EQG specials imply that the Storm King still lived after being shattered? Maybe something like that?
@RetroAnon
That’s basically what it is anyways. (And so are a lot of fan related content.) And that’s perfectly okay.
@Phoenixflambe
I was thinking of someone letting one or more of them out after a while. Maybe a villain who wants them to team up with them sets them free. Or alternatively someone does so in an attempt to reform them (like what happened with Discord).
“Ha, fools. That treacherous clone believed that I could take my place from the moment she emerged from the mirror pool, but she and her stupid allies have failed. Now everyone thinks I’ve been petrified. Finally, my love, we can start a new life together “
I like to think that Fuffle Puff lives in an alternate timeline where Chrysalis is redeemed, and those two live together in Twi’s library (which is still intact). :D
