not everyone knew it was just for the pitch as I’ve seen people bring up how much the crowdfunding got but apparently that’s not movie budget big.  
probably didn’t help that the way me and probably others found out about the crowdfunding was Doug Walker who made no reference to it just being pitch in his promoting of it and making it come across that crowdfunding was for the movie.  
on the plus side TV is still full of 2D animation I believe the cuphead show is still going be hand-drawn just digitally

Well, it kinda makes sense, because they need a company to pitch to in order to make it. Unfortunately, seems nobody wants to make a classic style animation nowadays, because they think it doesn’t “sell,” (even mediocre CGI movies like “The Boss Baby” still make profits, while ones like the MLP movie get ignored) or they see 2D animation as “obsolete.”
 
Things like that are why I wish some people would start more Indie animation companies, and such. Like all the Indie game companies out there.

Although to be fair the indigo page does say it is even if it’s not straight away

Huh, shame it’s not going to be animated, Though, I guess it’s better then nothing, and Ryan Reynolds might actually suit the character, seeing as Dirk the Daring is kinda goofy.

And one aspect about it is really going to piss people off

Yeah, sadly even with good funding sometimes it’s out of their control.
 
The MST3k revival fundraiser worked, and even got a second season, but sadly Netflix canned the series after that.

I doubt it’s a scam, but as you said, it’s difficult to make an animated motion picture independently in this day, and age.  
If it does get finished, maybe it could usher in more indie animated movies.

this is probably taking so long because it’s being made I think entirely independently and he hasn’t made an actual movie since 2000.  
I hope it gets done it would sure suck majorly it the movie ends up going on crowdfunders that ran away with your money lists

It seems that hasn’t been an update since 2017.  
Fortunately I can’t find any news of it being cancelled. I do wonder if it’s like the movie Klaus where the filmmaker struggles to find a studio because it was seen as too risky

Though, frankly those well animated Don Bluth laserdisc arcade games are more fun to watch then play. I hope they’ll complete the Dragon’s Lair movie.
