I would feel like having starlight glimmer’s lengthy and difficult redemption summarized in a 2 minute song montage wasn’t fair but at least she’s not written out of the show entirely. though I’d worry that maybe they were trying to force her on us as a star of the show, which would cause them to deliver some seriously questionable moral lessons. I’d notice starswirl the bearded, but wonder who all those new ponies are and those weird stag beetle creatures who HOLY SHIT CADANCE HAD A BABY THE SHOW IS RUINED FOREVER TIMES TWENTY AAAAAA

I’d be fine without Frienemies but it was awesome to have all the other three

Cutie Re-Mark was the last Episode of Season 5. So we would know that Starlight was reformed and that Cadence was expecting. So here’s what I may’ve thought, when seeing these pictures without context or knowing anything that happens after the end of Season 5.
 
Picture 1: Oh great, Starlight is a main character and the new Twilight. Why does the show always needs to reform their villains? That said, this new pony species looks great. Could this be the G4 version of the Flutterponies? The big guy between Luna and Celestia is probably their ruler. Maybe they Mane Six (and Starlight) are sent to their Kingdom to help them against a new villain? Also the tiny Alicorn is probably Cadence child. I hope she’s not one of these annoying bay characters.
 
Picture 2: Yes Starlight is indeed a main character. Bummer! The guy in the middle is probably Starswirl. Then we have a barbarian pony, a Spartan pony, an Egyptian pony, an African pony with tribal mask and two others. Could be characters from different parts of Equestria. The guy on the right, could be a grown-up Sunburst. Maybe he’s Starswirl’s apprentice? He went to Celestia’s school, so must be good with magic.
 
Picture 3: Female guards are finally canon! Love the design. I wonder who that filly is?
 
Picture 4: A villain team-up episode. That’s awesome. Never thought we see Tirek again. Still no idea what the filly is doing there. Maybe it’s just a short-sized mare? Wouldn’t mind another Pony villain after Starlight and Sombra.

Hard to know, since it wasn’t, and we already know what they’re of.

As someone who only watches the occasional episode when it is forced upon them with others and didn’t finish S3…
 
Top left: Colorful changelings are still stupid, also, who is that background alicorn?  
Top right: Uh, a bunch of characters? Can only name Somnambula, but the stallion on the far right looks familiar as well, Sunburst?  
Bottom left: Why is that guard so small? And no idea who that filly is.  
Bottom right: Wasn’t Tirek locked back into his cage in that one DBZ episode? Still don’t know the filly, and I guess Chrysalis is back again?

If Starlight was thrown in Tartarus, even after apologizing (if it would’ve happened like that), then if anything like School Raze happened, then it would’ve been awkward if she got a speaking role, alongside Tirek, lol.
 

 
Perhaps it would be an interesting AU idea to have her on the Legion of Doom.
 
To answer the question though, in my opinion, no, her reforming isn’t regrettable, and killing her would’ve just been a complete waste of a future story, just like if they offed Tirek in S4, or offed Discord in S2 or S4, or offed Chrysalis.

I would probably be interested in the top and bottom right pictures, most likely wouldn’t care less about the bottom left, and would actively dislike the top left.

None of these timelines would exist if Starlight succeeded?  
I’m still more curious as to what happened in the timeline that lead to Equestria being a barren wasteland.  
It was because of Fluttershy never discovering her Stare wasn’t it?
