It doesn’t even make sense. There were never any persecutions against age difference relationships in the past, hell, in the past 40 old lords were getting married with 16 year olds who were considered mature once they had their periods.
 
But even then, this argument doesn’t apply to this example because in real life we don’t have immortal people.  
And if we had, could you really imagine immortal Johnny Depp who never age to never get in relationship with a mortal 20 year old?

Dumb argument. There is literally no taboo against age difference couples for as long as they are adult. You can in rea world get married with a 99 year old man on a death bed for as long as you ar and adult and he can still consent.

Yes, they’re best friends in canon. But when it comes to fan-related content, people can still ship them. People don’t have to follow canon to a T with the ships they like.

I have two basic theories on that:
 
  1. It partially comes up to their designs. Discord has a white beard and eyebrows while Celestia and Luna don’t really look much different from many ponies outside of being taller and having flowing magical manes.
     
  2. It may also have to do with the character’s genders. A lot of people are more okay with older women (and female characters) dating younger adults than with men (and male fictional characters) doing the same. From what I’ve seen many people online love talking about MILFs but not so much with DILFs. Likewise, I’ve seen the media talk about and encourage cougar relationships but often times it portrays men doing the same as weird or creepy.

Trying to use “logic” on a lord of chaos like Discord kind of really doesn’t make sense.
 
Also, I feel the need to bring up that there’s a trope for this sort of thing: Immortality Begins at 20. It’s for when many fictional races and creatures live a long time but are basically like young adults physically and mentally like elves, vampires, dragons (and dragon people), mutants (like Wolverine from the X-Men), and aliens (like Kryptonians and Martians from the DC Comics or Gems from Steven Universe).

Yeah, but if Discord is immortal, would HE care if she’s too young or for that matter, would she care? To him, 70 years with her would be like movie going on fast-forward, to her, she would be more concerned about leaving him alive behind while she would be nothing but dust. It’s a romance that won’t find a happy ending but it is also a romance that would offer few years of memorable bliss to the two.
