They seem to vary; some of them are very obviously total BS, often made for younger viewers, that’s never addressed elsewhere.
Like say, how Cadance was a magical no-parents baby who grew in the woods like Thumbelina and defeated a witch before her menarche and Celestia was just sort of mystically summoned and made her a Princess on the spot just like a fairy tale you’d tell a little girl.
it’s canon. comics have been canon for a while.
