what’s interesting here is that they don’t even say it’s the end of G4, just the end of the TV show. So they may continue some aspect of G4 on another platform, likely YouTube shorts or comics.

I dont remember those fandoms whining so much about the ending, I mean of couse they did it, but not so much like this one… also, in adventure time case, everything was overshadowed for… ‘‘you know what’’

While I kinda agree, it depends on whom you ask, as some fans actually prefer EqG over MLP, (especially Sunset-fans) and are hoping it’ll outlast it.

I must add, I was kinda surprised EqG toned down Sour-Sweet’s personality on her second appearance. To the point, she was actually kinda bland. I mean, she didn’t have to be as crazy as she was in the third movie, but still…

I had seen people talking about the fate of EQG, at this point they will probably continue long enough. Hopefully EQG will go to the cemetery with FiM for good.

I really think it is unlikely that Hasbro has learned nothing after 9 seasons of this show. They likely know by now having a good show is something that helps them push toys and overall gets them more money. I think G5 will be fine, while it might end up with some more product placement then G4 did as long as they have a good staff on hand they will be able to write a great story with it. In the hands of the right writers (and other staff) anything can be made to work.

No, she’s, like, the Head of Storytelling for MLP and Littlest Pet Shop and stuff. She… oversees the content for all these different show, I think? Basically, the show-runner actually directs a single property, and all the staff working on it. It’s all under one vision, see? Whoever that is for Gen 5 could make or break the series. It’s all dependent on their skill, so really, we still just have to have some faith.

All the things Hasbro forced into the show are things we don’t even think twice about. The Friendship Express is a neat addition, and Cadance is a princess, so becoming (and earning the right to be) an alicorn is a given. Twilight has been an alicorn so long that it feels weird to see her without her wings nowadays. Even if Faust didn’t intend them at first, all of these things scream MLP now, and that’s because the writers have managed to play these ideas straight and integrate them into the show.
 
The execution is what’s important - and at the end of the day we don’t even know who exactly is going to be writing Gen 5. We can’t judge the staff, because they’re mostly unknown, so there’s little point in worrying about how the new Gen is going to turn out. What we do know is that Hasbro’s apparently hiring a show-runner that’s going to stick around throughout Gen 5’s entirety, unlike Faust, who left about 3 seasons in. We’re just gonna have to pray that whoever’s hired as the show-runner can roll with the punches and create a great story out of whichever designs Hasbro wants in the show.

Let me let you in on a little secret: everyone has to deal with executive meddling. Especially if they’re working with an established property. You think Disney paid four billion US dollars for Lucasfilm, then just handed J.J. Abrams a pile of money and said “here, go nuts”? Good writers know how to work within constraints. Heck, a lot of good writers need those constraints. G5 will be fine unless the writers themselves suck, and since they’re the same people making G4 that should not be an issue.

Yes, they wanted money. But Lauren Faust wanted a good show. And their hands weren’t as out of it as you might’ve thought. Right from the start they were meddling. A few examples: Did you know they wanted Faust to axe Luna from the show completely? They thought she was “too scary” for kids. They wanted fashion and dresses to be a major part of the show (and Faust conceded with Rarity.) They demanded the Friendship Express be worked into the show so they could sell a toy train set. They also demanded more princesses to make toys of, and this is why we got alicorn Cadance (originally a unicorn in Faust’s drafts), Flurryheart, and alicorn Twilight.
 
The list of demands from Hasbro was never-ending, and is part of the reason Faust left the show. Without her running interference at the start, the show we’d have today would be vastly different. And that’s what scares me. With G5 no one’s running interference. It will be a creature born completely from the bowels of their marketing departments. Good writing? Good characterizations? Good plots? Who cares? We got toys to sell!

The reuse of the Mane Six names is an important thing because Hasbro will lose the trademarks if they are not used. Expect many other popular pony names to be used in G5 as well.

Hasbro wants more money, yes, but they also know that an objectively good show can bolster sales and interest in the property more than any advertising. They’ve been watching what putting actual effort into a show can do for the past 9 years; I’m sure that they care a great deal about the quality of the new series. The fact that the leaks mention wanting to put more fantasy and adventure into G5, and to create a dedicated show bible says as much. Not even mentioning the huge Generation 5 prequel movie that’s coming in 2021. They’re pumping a lot of money, and talent into this so that it turns out well, so all I’m saying is that we should put some faith into the new staff.
 
And Applejack? I know about all the leaks, and how they want to rearrange the characters, and I still think we should just wait. They were concepts. Just general discussions on what direction the show could take, and nothing else. Hay, for all we know, they may have already scrapped the whole Applejack uncountry-ization. For all we know, they could have even decided against reusing the Mane 6 for G5, like, last year after the backlash.
