Personality: You could literally say the same for both. Except Sonic isn’t as obnoxious, but is still a tryhard.
 
Design: How. Dare. You. Compare a 3D design with 2D Flash animation.
 
Development: Agree for both. Dashie was a little bit of a dick at first, but she already started developing after Episode 2. Sonic still is a guy who loves adventure like he always was. Though became more of a joker. (Dammit Roger.)
 
Enjoyment: Sonic literally could be said the exact same way as Rainbow Dash. And Roger Craig is a shitty joker, making quite a lot of people dislike him. Gameplay is only fun in certain games, like Heroes (somewhat), Unleashed, Classics, etc. Forces however……
 
But for all I know, this entire post could be a huge r/woooosh that managed to get me, due to the “op is trying to start shit.”

I’m probably the only person who prefers the 3DS version. Sure it was shorter, but it had some cool exclusive levels/bosses, (love the “Big Arm” remix) and such, and the “Classic Sonic” physics seemed more true to the original 16-bit games.
 
Though, it was a bit odd they used a Shadow level from SA2, instead of a Sonic one.

About the redesigns, Beau, I think some people in the insatiable Sonic fandom - and even outside! - doesn’t seem to understand that Sonic is a smaller brand inside Sega. And as a brand, he should evolve to live on: that cute, chubby, maybe a bit unexpressive hedgehog of 1991 has aged quite a lot. Of course one can take some steps back, and try a third way (Sonic Mania has shown what you can do with old designs and new resources. The “classic” Blue Blur on Sonic Generations was… Dull…).  
It’s like you stated on the ’tude issue: it all evolves, only that the visual impact, obviously, is the first thing a fan will notice and tends to put the bullseye on the back of those poor designers.

Speaking as a casual Sonic fan, I gatta say this is rather biased. You could say the same bad things about both characters, or even the same good things for that matter.
 
Also, try saying modern Sonic has a “great design” to all the retro classic-Sonic purists. They’ll freak.

Frankly, they’ve toned down his “blue ‘tude” actually. Sonic’s more laid-back, and not so egotistical nowadays. So actually he has some development over the years.

On a sidenote you guys should see how “basic” are some bronies when they troll seemingly innocent Sonic game hacks featuring Dashie and Shy… I think both parts are very wrong, and I wish there was some understanding between them, but after deeming it impossible, I prefer to look and have fun.
 
Long live MLP and Tails (seriously, even being a fan of the Sonic games since I was 9 - I’m 35 now. Old man Bigly - I didn’t AND don’t care that much for that blue ‘tude factory).
