I don’t use any spreadsheets or anything like that. I type two queries into the server console to get all the tags I need and then copy and paste the results.

he used a giant spreadsheet to keep track of all the artists and the character names. if i recall correctly he used a script to automatically grab all the artist and character tags when uploading the pic so he didn’t have to type them all in himself.

That is true but there were several commenters on here that either didn’t know about it somehow or didn’t know how to participate. I know it’s not exactly hard to not know either but still. Also having a dedicated news and announcement spot might be beneficial for both community announcements and site update/change announcements as well.
 
I guess word will spread regardless of the method all the same, but I’m sure such a dedicated spot could have various uses that you all could come up with.

The banner that was at the top of every page seemed to work fine - literally over a thousand people noticed it. Probably way more than that, we don’t actually keep track of that.

Ah. Then what about the possibility of a special message/site message slot right below it? It would be much harder to miss since people generally look over to that section of the homepage anyway and it don’t need to always be there either. Just when important messages arise it could be temporarily added to get the message out.
 
Images could also be added to draw a bit more attention if necessary or as a quick summary of what the message is as well.
 
I’m just generally tossing some random ideas out… no clue on any technical/coding hurdles such things might need or if they are even possible at all.

That would be a waste of a featured image slot. We only have 120-ish featured images a year, so I’d much rather that slot be used only for artwork and not ads.

There’s 1022 characters, let’s assume the artists took an average of 1h to draw the character and that they all work for minimum wage ($7.25/h in the US?); that’d be $7,409.5. I think that’d be the absolute minimum we’re looking at here. That completely ignores that most artist probably took longer and would not work for minimum wage, also Joey’s time to put this monstrosity together…  
If this were a commission I guess you’d easily be looking at 25k+

Has anyone done a estimate on how much this pic would cost given the artists involved?

Perhaps for the next collab just toss a featured image up with some quick info and have it’s description either be or link to the full info post. Because everyone clearly sees this featured image in order to vote, fave, and comment on it. :)

Edit: as you can see, the post is quite lengthy and wouldn’t have been very effective as a banner for the site.

I mean the reason I never submitted is because the Collab banner really didnt mention HOW you would be featured or that you could get your oc featured in a pic… this one is on derpibooru for letting that little bit of info slip from the banner… I thought you would just be mentioned I never knew that it was a chance to get actual recognition… THAT is why I ignored it
