It’s nice to see that Celestia has her back, even in times of danger.

And yet it’s the way that they make their show, which the rest of us as viewers just watch and don’t control what happens in it.
Gotta make those toybux, worldbuilding be damned!
Yeah every time foals are involved, everything gets more absurd in an attempt to be cute.
Pegasus flying from birth, sibling implies adultery at best, being born alicorn with obsurd power beyond Celestias.
It’s like they can’t be cute and have any consistency about the details of the fantasy world they’re describing at the same time. Almost feels like dissonance between writers.
Clearly not the case, because Pumpkin Cake was doing it long before we ever heard of Starlight. Granted, the explanation was that unicorn foals have magic surges, perhaps indicative that it takes a heft amount of magic to lift yourself in that way. Point being, if a foal can do it, it’s probably not some unheard of feat of magic.
I always thought it was just principle of lifting oneself that way.
As if the levitation magic coming out of them is also churning inside their body, so most unicorns will need their feet on the ground to brace themselves.
Correction: she was shocked to see a full grown unicorn doing it. She’s seen and/or heard of unicorn foals doing it.
She may be shocked because it’s such an incredibly inefficient use of magic to fly that way. Shock at somepony being dumb enough to actually do that.
This is where you are wrong. Twilight was actually shocked to see a pony using her magic to fly.
That’s likely because self levitation is largely impractical. I have no doubt Twilight can do it, since she’s levitated a baby space bear, but why would she when she could use cloudwalking spells or give herself wings all the way back in season one? Starlight, having no formal training, doesn’t know any of the alternatives. It’s a bit like using a stick to solve every problem.
Yeah in the crystal empire Twilight (as unicorn) was able to stop her fall by self- levitation, except that she didn’t use it again when reaching for the top of the tower.
That would end badly, she’s the one unicorn who can float.
Actually I think a couple can use magic to break their fall, but Starlight was the first to pick up her own body with magic aside from maybe Twilight irrc.
Luckily, yeah.
Back in the real realm, Celestia knows that Starlight is ok.
There a many like her but this one is mine.
…then Starlight woke up because they’re in the dream realm
You’re wrong because Starlight can levitate herself.
