Funny you hate that aspect so much, some fans nowadays always complain how he’s a “bland game character” nowadays, and miss the more “edgy ‘tude.” Granted, the edgy ‘tude was mostly in non-game material now that I think of it.
 
But yeah, if you love the old games, get Mania, preferably the Switch version for convenience. Not sure if they still sell the full physical “Sonic Mania Plus” release, (that includes all the bonus DLC, and a nice li’l behind-the-scenes art book) but wouldn’t hurt to look for it. Still, it’s also available on the N Eshop, PSStore, and such, as well.
 
If you want the download version instead, sometimes they have discount sales on it during holidays, and such promotions.

i understand that, it’s just more about the vibe its going on. at least it helps to know it hasnt been like that since the 90s. if any case, i’ll just give the series another go. mania has always looked very interesting to me as a game

To be honest, the series hasn’t really been like that sense the ’90s. In fact, Sonic never actually says, “Way Past Cool,” that was just a catchphrase from the old DiC cartoons.

maybe i might give it a try then. if nothing else, i dont mind the older titles and games stylised around them.
 
yeah true, crash is one of those series’ that never takes itself too seriously. my problem with sonic is not so much the goofiness tho, it’s the “way past cool” style its going on. that stuff is more silly than actually cool to me

I have “Sonic Mania Plus,” it’s actually pretty good. Doesn’t have much of a story, and no dialogue, so the goofyness is at a minimum, but it does have nods to the series throughout.
 
I dunno, I think Crash Bandicoot is alot more comical then the Sonic series is.

my taste kind of varies. ill like a fun adventure like okami and pokemon, ill like a bit of horror like yume nikki, ill like a goofy game like crash bandicoot. and all of them do have their moments where i go “why?”  
really, most games in general have one moment that people look at and find it silly. at least to me, the sonic series is chock full of em

oh no, definitely not. i tend to enjoy silly games over darker games anyway.  
i am not opposed to the whole series tho. i played heroes as a kid, and im seriously considering getting mania for the switch

I’d say the games are more cheesy than corny, and I do love my cheese. ^^
 
It’s just a matter of taste. Not every great game needs to be serious and dark all the time.

Frankly, alot of great games are kinda corny. Even games like “Ocarina of Time,” or “Final Fantasy 7” have some corny moments looking back on ’em.

i never liked the sonic games, theyre really damn corny

Meanwhile, on Mobius, Sonic’s room is full of Rainbow Dash merch’, and Knuckles just shakes his head.
