Honestly, the best answer to this situation is apologize and walk away. If the kid isn’t a sociopath they might feel bad and accept the apology.

She’s mostly just quirky and a bit dark. Ultimately quite harmless and delightful. She and Honey will get along great (well, when Prim isn’t involved) and that alone means Dolly is different than her mother.

I would love it if she turned out to only be slightly quirky as opposed to, you know, Jack the ripper. I don’t really want to believe this cute little demon is cursed just because her mommy is a literal monster.

As a viewer who doesn’t know the future, alarm bells went off when Dolly started acting more like Sonata (utterly lacking empathy, as you just said).
 
I would like to not despise this little ragamuffin and her father (who at least seems nicer than he was in canon), but their behavior isn’t giving me much to work with and seeing even more pain inflicted on an already bereaved and genuinely good-spirited party for a gag just inclines me even further from wanting to give Sonata’s unauthorized family another chance.

Okay, so it’s no wonder this one doesn’t seem to have the same mother issues as the others.

As the co-creator of Dolly, I can say with a great amount of authority that she isn’t a monster in the slightest and as for her reactions - she wasn’t bothered at the time simply because it wasn’t happening to her and Daddy was okay with it so it couldn’t have been that bad but once Dolly was hugged without her consent, alarm bells went off.

None of which Dolly looked the least bit bothered by when it was happening (even happily waving “Bye mommy!” when Adagio was dragging Sonata out), only when Adagio hugged her. It looks to me like the child is just as monstrous as the parent.

That puts a lot of blame on a child for not knowing things. Dolly doesn’t realize mommy doesn’t care about her because Neighsay makes Sonata be on her best behavior and she doesn’t pick up on that.
 
Adagio invaded her personal space after being loud and scary and interrupting her birthday. Adagio may be sympathetic but she’s not right here.

I agree, there’s a reason why this Sonata wasn’t allowed to have children. Dolly may be a child, but the last thing she should be doing is acting or emulating her mother. Hopefully she can see Dagi actually cares about her and will eventually learn to trust her aunt some day.

Yelling at a mother that doesn’t care about her and probably wishes she didn’t exist, based on Sonata’s previous comments. Adagio, on the other hand, was only angry for the child’s sake (and justifiably so) and showed Dolly herself nothing but affection, resorting to the method that clearly works on her whore mother when hugs were rejected.
 
That in mind? I suspect it’s less that she cares about ‘mommy’ being threatened and more that the apple just doesn’t fall far from the tree. If Neighsay is cheating on his actual wife with Sonata as the mistress (though I forget if that’s the case), their entire family can burn for all I care.

I mean, Adagio came into the place yelling at her mother, dragging her violently out of the place and then came up to her and started squeeze hugging her which she clearly didn’t enjoy and all this on her birthday - and Adagio right now is trying to buy her affection - so, Dolly has every right to be nervous and distrustful and bite-y.
