Hate to break it to you, but even EqG has been stagnating for a while. Many agree the antagonists are lack luster and the stories always seems to revolve around the same basic premise. Though they managed to drum up a some more interest by playing the sympathy for Sunset plot device again. But I dunno how many times they’ll keep going back to working that angle, probably as many times as it’ll keep people interested in EqG.

I was heartbroken. I paused this and me and my friend were talking about how sad and painful it was to see, but yet how it also made sense for them to follow up with the results of SugarMac. I thought the way they just did it as a really small 2 seconds of Marble’s heart breaking was perfect.
 
I can understand someone with a personal similar experience feeling especially hurt, but to say it doesn’t belong in the show when so much heartbreak and reality of situation exists in pony to begin with is a step too far.

I’m not surprised TUA is triggered…. they haven’t changed from who they were back when I remember them on EQD.

That’s… not even vaguely similar, though? That was included because Peewee being absent from any other episode after Spike rescued him was an actual dangling plot thread that needed resolution, and it got a happy one that made sense in-universe. Marble apparently carrying a torch for Mac was something which had never been referenced before and was apparently invented entirely for this one background gag, for the sole purpose of having a minor recurring character cringe in pain. If it had been established at some point that she’d been pinin’ for the big’un all this time, it would have at least made sense and had some reason to exist in this scene, but coming out of nowhere means they established it just to smack her in the face with it. It didn’t need to be there, and the same gag could have been done in a way that wasn’t mean-spirited by having her back away blushing with darting eyes.

I point again to various instances of “Scootaloo can’t fly”, which also happen in episodes where they aren’t plot-relevant, and to the Hearts and Hooves background shot that another BP mentioned earlier. Also, I’d like to mention that MLP doesn’t need to candy-coat every single negative aspect of life out of existence. This was no more pointless than showing that Spike gave Peewee back to his parents.

We don’t know that. Could be brought up in the future. Besides, why would it have to be necessary anyway? People thought maybe they had a thing going before, and then Sugar Belle came in and we were left hanging. Yeah it’s perhaps disappointing, but… I don’t think it’s purposely cruel. That said I hope she finds somebody.

This isn’t the show being mean for the sake of it or mocking anyone. It’s the show owning up to something that happened earlier and acknowledging that Marble’s feelings still exist even when the situation doesn’t make it easy. I don’t know if you paid attention, but Marble smiles again later in the special. She didn’t stop appreciating everything else because of one loss. She enjoyed the holiday anyway.
