Ok, this is the last rant revolving around Starlight and how people react to her. I swear! At least it should be. I don’t see myself doing this again. At least in art form. But hey, give me credit. She’s not the only subject matter here.
Now you all know the Sunset vs Starlight thing the fans go into for a long time now (hell, I bet more than half of you took part in that one way or another) and how their one in the same. In fact some claim their exactly the same. But they’re not. They’re really not. The only thing they have in common is they both reformed thanks to Twilight and their last names rhyme, that’s really it. More superficial the more I think about it. And of course there the fans constantly arguing (I’ll admit, I was guilty of this too), the two sides never getting along, and the constant, constant art of characters being used as mouth pieces and the endless amount of the two fighting. And I mean legit fighting. Like, to the death. And the one who came first comes out on top.
Now, this seems familiar. Hmmmm, where have I seen this before? Let me think. Hmm……. Oh! Yes I remember. This is basically the same exact situation of the whole Kinba the White Lion vs Lion King. In fact, it’s almost identical! The reactions anyway. Now I’ve seen some of Kimba and yeah, considering the settings and the animals there are similarities. But they’re pretty small and the story isn’t one of them. Well I should say “stories” because from what I can tell there are some different versions of Kimba’s story, how he came to be and even how the father died. But there’s still this feud even though it’s been over two decades. And yeah, there is (or at least was) art of the two fighting like one of them invaded in on the other’s territory. A little sad if you ask me. But…..no body really asked me but whatever. So I did this as some sort of response/joke
And yes, I know the irony of calling people out on using these characters as mouth pieces while this technically is the same thing. But here’s the thing: I kept them in character. I honestly think that Sunset would be confused of the feud, Starlight would be irritatingly annoyed by it, Simba can empathize and would be jaded yet just as annoyed, and Kimba (being a lion who tries to bring piece and harmony among all the animals in the savanna) would have a migraine after witnessing all this chaos over nothing and is beyond fixing. So is me doing this is ironic? Yes. Hypocritical? I don’t think so.
Bottom line: for every one similarity that Starlight and Sunset or Simba and Kimba (or rather Lion King and Kimba the White Lion) have, there’s like five differences that are right in front of us. So let’s all just relax and enjoy what we enjoy. You know, live and let live.
This is only me semi venting about it while having a little fun with it. Drawing these four like this was pretty fun. :D Also, I’m not 100% sure, but Kimba never grows up in his stories. He’s always a cub and I couldn’t find an adult design of him. So I had to get a little inventive with how I think he’d look as an adult lion.

WHEW! Alright, that’s enough venting and ranting/raving. Next art pieces will be cute, fun and positive. I promise. :)
Me too.
So that’s where the name came from, and why both names sound “suspiciously” similar.
Edited
Agreed, he did a good, and epic job pointing out how different both are, how misleading all the debate videos and information online was, (as well as how most people knew nothing of Kimba) and how the only similarities were common tropes like “The bad guy has dark hair,” or “character is hanging off the edge of a cliff.”
So how could a real word rip off a made up name?
Kimba? Simba? Hm… Suspicious!
Edited
I’ve already seen that video when it was fairly new. Can’t tell you how glad I am that someone finally killed a decade’s long stupid controversy drama as quickly and brutally as he did X)
That…..proves my point even further. There’s so many different versions of Kimba his story or stories, so there’s no way Disney could intentionally rip it off.
But anyway, Thanks for clearing that up. I do like my version though and I think I’ll stick with it
Yep, that’s definately him. That’s from the movie where Kimba was an adult and had two cubs of his own.
You sure that’s him? I thought that was his father. Considering the eyes
You’re right. No biggie
Haters gonna hate, just shake it off.

Well, thanks for making me feel ashamed of loving the damn movie and thinking all “similarities” are superficial at best. This is exactly why I don’t wanna work for Disney anymore, too much bullshit drama revolving around it (much like a certain fandom)
But you know what, I don’t care. And I’m not gonna make a big fuss about it. I’m jaded about this anyway.

I find interesting a reformed character who has a lot of her old and evil traits.
That right there, “Otherwise it’s Twilight again”. That’s where the wasted potential shows, if the process of her creation were given a little more time we might have a better character.
Also I don’t find a character using the same same solution to various problems appealing, I find it stale.
is Simba a Bantu word?
because Swahili is a Hybrid of Bantu and Arabic yet the Arabic word for Lion is different
Also, I was never the biggest fan of the Lion King. Aladdin is my favorite Disney Renaissance film and Fantasia is my favorite movie period.
Actually Starlight has left some of these quirks this season. But her magic like solution to a lot her problems it was her main appeal. Otherwise is Twilight again without wings and mesfits friends.
Well ok then.
Simply that if Starlight’s character have been handled differently there could have been potential for much better development. As it stands right now it doesn’t seem like she’s really learned anything and therefore is wasted potential, she still freaks out, she still over does things, and she still relies on magic as a first solution.
Hey, look at the bright side, it took longer than expected!
I don’t like the fans who make any of these four characters fight either , Starlight and Shimmer would empathize with each other and Simba and Kimba would get along
sorry If I made you feel bad ;-;
