Well in this particular case, these aren’t Thorax’s biological children, he’s just looking after them, being the leader of, and ultimately the caretaker of the hive. The modern changelings seem to function like close-knit animal packs more than insects, which was probably done on purpose to give the hive a friendlier feel. The story(s) this art is based on get into that.

As for the question in general…yeah, probably.

I don’t think so. It’s more likely that he’s suppose to be a father-like figure for the hive, like Bug Queen was suppose to be before her.
