Well, Happy Endings also exist and can happen in our reality, but they still called a form of escapism.  
Also, it wasn't a generic 'bad thing'. It was Dragon Lord getting betrayed, which in dragon culture, *can't* easily happen. Otherwise Torch would give Bloodstone Scepter to big old Dragon, not to young dragon.
