Wll…as if problems caused by some misused magic wasnt bad enough and being tired of constantly loosing wasnt bad enuogh, the coup de grace was the feeling of “Oh not trapped in an alternate dimention but just a boring room and could ahd easily solved it”….honestly, if i was feeling like i was made a fool enough times, i would feel like raging.

Absolutely agreed. There was a whole subtheme of “Sunset is holding herself back and it’s not good for anyone” in Rainbow Rocks, after all!
@Darth Sonic
Neither DHX nor Boulder Media have any involvement in the writing process. All writing is done in america at hasbro studios. I know that wasn’t your main point, but it really pisses me off when people continue to make this mistake.
@Ihhh
Headcanon or not, it’s likely the answer DHX/Boulder would give if asked (or alternatively if they ever decide to address it on screen).
Of course, the real answer is that they effectively replaced Shimmer’s old personality in Rainbow Rocks, and are now trying to course correct and (somewhat clumsily) create a bridge between EQG 1 Shimmer and Post-EQG 1 Shimmer.
…Seriously, people? The obvious answer is that the first couple of movies she was trying to make sure her friends stayed her friends. She actively held her normal personality back to make her more likable to the girls - Rainbow Rocks being the worst of it. Over time they have shown to like her regardless and so she let down her guard. Now she isn’t afraid to show her negative traits because she knows that as long as she doesn’t just become those negative traits and apologizes when she hurts someone, they won’t abandon her.
Personally i prefer the new sunset the fact that she gets angry easily shows that she hasn’t completely overcome the darkness within her which makes her much more interesting.
