Hell of a way to discuss a mature theme in a child-friendly way!As a BSA camp counselor/firearms instructor for youth, it’s a topic that I have had to address a number of times, so it really touched me personally!

I agree, the episode showed a very mature theme but in a very light way. This season is being great so far.

Terramar’s parents are separated, but the reason for it (other than his mother prefers to be a seapony and his father prefers to be a hippogriff) aren’t explained. The thing is: it doesn’t matter. WHY Terramar’s parents choose to live apart isn’t actually relevant to the story here. The focus of the story is on Terramar’s confusion over where he belongs; it doesn’t matter what led to that predicament.
 
This is an example of really clean, tight story-writing, including only such details as are needed to advance the plot. This episode was Brian Hohlfeld’s first time at bat as a show writer, and he knocked it out of the park.

I’m not cynical so I see it as the latter and instead of divorce the episode was about being proud of and embracing your biracial heritage without having to feel like you have to pick which aspect of that heritage to live in.

I want to see someone finish this animation, where Terramar falls on his fishtail and writhes helplessly on the sand.

I’m still confused. Are his parents divorced but on good terms or are they really together?
