This isn’t about being misinformed, this is about AJ telling Dash that her rules have to be followed or something bad will happen to someone in Granny’s group. If AJ didn’t know what was going on in Las Pegasus, then she shouldn’t have acted as if she did. The way she lead Dash on made Dash think that AJ knew exactly what she was talking about and that her rules had to be carefully followed. This is a lie of omission.
 
For example, suppose someone told you how to build a rocket and you go out and follow their instructions. Then on the launch day, your rocket explodes on the launch pad. You go back and ask the guy what happened and he tells you that he told the truth about how rockets are built from his understanding … but he’s not actually a rocket scientist. You could absolutely say that he lied by not disclosing this fact.
 
Similarly, AJ acted as if she knew exactly what she was talking about when she gave Dash the rules for Las Pegasus even though she clearly didn’t. She made Dash paranoid due to not disclosing the fact that she wasn’t really aware of what they did in Las Pegasus (assuming she didn’t know). This information would have changed Dash’s behavior, which is probably why AJ didn’t disclose it.
 
We can agree to disagree, but I think it’s pretty clear that AJ lied.

AJ can’t lie to save her life. Possessing the Element of Honesty is a very good argument for AJ not telling a lie straight to RD’s face.
 
But wait… not like the show hasn’t totally thrown that concept out the window with RD herself, loyalty my rear window.

We have to agree to disagree. I still think Applejack is completely clueless of what the group does in Las Pegasus and if Applejack did go with the group she would act the same way as Rainbow did in this episode.

AJ directly tells Dash that if she doesn’t follow her rules, then she can forget about the roller coaster ride. There is no getting around this fact. If AJ knew that Granny’s group do all the things they do every year at Las Pegasus and are always fine, then she directly told a lie. In the unlikely case that she never actually went to Las Pegasus with Granny and her group, then she told a lie of omission by not disclosing this fact to Dash.
 
Through the episode, Dash was freaking out because she was certain that if any of AJ’s rules are broken then someone in Granny’s group would get too tired or maybe even hurt. She believed this was a certainty, because AJ lead her on to think this was the case. If AJ never went to Las Pegasus, then she shouldn’t have made it seem like her rules were infallible.
 
You can make the argument that she wasn’t intentionally trolling to ruin Dash’s fun, but I think there is a strong argument for the fact that she told a lie.

It’s always fun and games until some mare breaks her hip.

The episode gives us little to go on, but seeing Granny’s group reaction after being told Applejack give instructions to RD, it’s safe to assume that Big Mac and Granny don’t give Applejack all the information about their trip. Which makes sense character wise as Applejack does tend to be overprotective.
 
To quickly jump to the conclusion that Applejack is just outright lying to Rainbow just to troll her doesn’t make any sense.

Big Mac usually goes with Granny, this doesn’t mean always. Even if AJ has never gone, it’s odd that she would never ask anyone about their trips. I don’t think this is very likely, in fact, I think it’s pretty unlikely. I think it’s more likely that she knows, but she consciously tries to be a killjoy out of concern for their well-being. If this is true, then she did lie if you consider a lie of omission a lie.
 
AJ should have told Dash that Granny’s group get a little crazy on their trips, but they do this every year and it worries her so she wants all these extra rules to keep them safe. Then Dash would have known that the rules were just AJ being paranoid.

But that doesn’t mean Applejack lied. Big Mac has always been the one that goes alone with Granny’s group. AJ is most liekly just a clueless about the group does in Las Pegasus as RD.

More like the moral of the story is that AJ is a giant killjoy when it comes to her family.

AJ made Dash believe that if she didn’t follow her strict rules, she wouldn’t be able to ride the roller coaster due to the old mares being sick or hurt. We later discover that the rules were exaggerated and the older ponies explain that they have been doing things their way for many years. To prove this point, the old ponies ride the extreme roller coaster with Dash and everyone enjoys themselves. At the end, Dash tosses AJ’s advice aside and joins Granny Smith’s group.
 
If what Granny Smith said was true and that the old ponies go to Las Pegasus every year and do all the things we watched them doing, then AJ should be aware of this but chose to freak Dash out with her rules anyway. Dash got trolled by AJ.

The moral was more that sometimes people know more about their own welfare than their caretakers think they do.

So….when did Applejack lie?
 
We’ve known from past episodes that Applejack is overprotective of her family and just gave RD a list of rules.

The moral is that Dashie got trolled.
