In case you were wondering how Sandbar’s body dimensions compare to a typical adult mare.
These were cropped from a screencap toward the end of School Daze part 2, where they are both standing in line with each other in profile.
Main differences are his facial structure, more boxy body (slightly longer than AJ’s), limbs narrower and slightly longer, and neck slightly longer.
AJ’s head is rotated downward/forward a little bit, giving her the illusion of being the same overall height. If her head was tilted back like Sandbar’s so that her ear was vertical like his, she’d be noticeably shorter.

Well, the students being escorted doesn’t necessarily prove they are children, parents escort their young adult kids to college all the time, and my parents still often treat me like a child despite my age. In fact, most people looked at me like a child until I was 25. As for their behavior, I have seen plenty of adults act like that, but it is also extremely common for young adults to behave like that. I have experienced that first hand as well.
And as far as this website is concerned, I’m sorry but this site is in no way representative of the show or characters. Despite popular belief on this site, the moderators of this site are not ambassadors of Hasbro, the show, or the fandom for that matter. So the way they decide to tag or name something holds absolutely no validity.
The only real thing we can go on is the show staff regarding them as “the young six,” but even that can be up for interpretation.
Basically, the actual age of the six students is still a gray area, but I would certainly put them anywhere between 15 and 21.
It’s clear that the school has students of all ages, but it’s also clear that the “student six” are minors. Except for Sandbar they are all escorted by family or other authority figures who dote on them as if they’re kids, but also expect obedience. Their attitudes also scream middle-school or highschool age.
I put them at 13-16. Derpi policy for art tagging also assumes they are children. The show staff calls them “the young six.”

I would say that Sandbar is just slightly smaller than AJ, definitely scrawnier.
I am guessing that the students are actually young adults, like between 17 and 21, for two reasons. They do seem to be generally smaller that the average adult of their respective species, and they are in a university.
Also, refer to the class photo to compare Sandbar to an adult male, as there are two standing across from him.
