Exactly. An artist is and always should be allowed to create whatever they want, even if it’s the same thing over and over, but they should be aware that in doing so they’re hindering their potential improvement. And not too many people are interested in following the progress of someone who never tries anything new, y’know?
@Storm_e
Absolutely. Some if not most artists have a “default” face for pieces that aren’t trying to depict any particular emotion, which is fine, but other people will quickly pick up on the pattern and get tired of it if it’s all that one does.
Ok i can agree on that doing the same thing over and over again. Same as editing an artwork over and over again until you got almost over a 30 different versions of the same thing.
Edited because: Rule #8
Yeah I agree with you. It’s one thing for drawing the same face and it’s another thing for calling it an art style and never really bothering to experiment with anything else. When an artist has over 500 images and only draws one of two ways, it’s going to get stale for people.
Edited because: Rule #8
The problem is a) it’s boring for fans of your art to see the same expression over and over and over, and b) you never learn to do anything different if you keep doing the same thing and never branching out. There’s nothing wrong with it, exactly, but it will drive you in the opposite direction of progress.
I don’t see anything wrong with drawing everytime same face expression. I do that too all the time or most times.
Edited because: Rule #8
Whether this particular artist draws the same face often is debatable and honestly not my concern, what isn’t debatable and is important to point out however is that having a style does not and should not equate to drawing the same expression over and over. Dozens upon dozens of artists have their own styles and manage to draw a wide range of facial expressions within that style.
This artist might draw too much of the same face but he has his own artstyle to draw the ponies.
