Certainly. Diamonds are brittle because they’re one of the hardest substances on Earth. Being a diamond means you never get scratched except by other diamonds. But breaking? Oh, they break alright. They’re too inflexible not too when the force is delivered at the right angle.
 
Now silver, on the other hand, bends rather than breaks, at least until metal fatigue sets in. But it’s much softer. Many things that wouldn’t leave a scratch on diamond can cut right through a thin sheet of silver.

With the proper angle, diamonds can break pretty easily (albeit not with one’s bare hands/hooves), just like any other crystal.
