Description

A commission for one of my patrons on Patreon. It’s the first of three pieces depicting the grownup, anthropomorphic CMC as various aspects of the Holiday season. First is Scootaloo in a fetching angel’s outfit. Next will be Sweetie Belle!

Yeah but there’s a difference between winged horses and birds. It’s normal that bird wings start at the neck because those are essentially the arms of a bird.
Most winged creatures like the mythic pegasi or demons or dragons (not wyverns) have the wings start on the shoulder blades. It’s something I’ve always learned to be the right thing.

This is pretty much how I imagine wings on human/humanoid creatures.

My point was that the wings, started at the shoulders not the neck, the wing part at the neck is the muscle an sinew normally found in flying animals.

That is a pretty bad example image, you have there, I don’t think I have seen any with the wing s That low, at least not any who tried a somewhat realistic approach.

The difference between Barons version and the common one is that Baron uses the same joint for wings and arms, whereas most artists place the wings further on the back.

That said the entire discussion is rather silly, both versions are unrealistic, there is no musculature at all since it would look silly with that much muscle on the back.
Not to mention the whole six limbed creature thing.

What it all comes down to is ascetic, which is completely subjective.

I’ve been noticing this about baron’s style, he always makes his wings start at the front of the collarbone which I don’t think is right.
Most wing interpretations have the wings start on the back on the shoulder blades.
The rest of the anatomy is great but that just throws me off O_O

Going by his bat/dragon wings the bone structure still starts at the shoulder blade.

The fact that there is more to the wing fits real life bird wings pretty well.
