Technically not
I’ve scanned FimFiction and can’t find even one
Which is a shame I think

Well that’s not true, that’s like suggesting Spike exists for Twilight alone, but he clearly has a crush on Rarity. Just because Starlight was the catalyst for Sunburst’s introduction doesn’t mean he is defined by her and as such is destined to be stuck with her as a result. There’s no reason why Sunburst couldn’t be shipped with Twilight, after all, they synergize well and share a lot in common.

@PonyPon
Just like Cheerilee had dibs on Big Mac? Or Pinkie Pie’s sister? No character has “dibs” until an actual romance is formed.

If Starlight didn’t exist or if Sunburst was made independent from Starlight like if he was Twilight’s old classmate from magic school instead of Starlight’s childhood friend then the Twiburst ship would sail.

But as it stands, Sunburst’s character exists for Starlight and her alone.

Weirdo
There’s a ship that sailed simply because the guy once stood next to Twilight in a crowd.
Yes, really.

What I’m getting at is, the only strange thing about her being shipped with the nerdy, bookish, socially awkward new friend of the family – especially after them geeking out together – is that there isn’t more of it.

I shipped this before this episode, but now I ship it so hard I can’t even stand it.

If you think about it most of the fan reactions to MLP are overreactions. As far as I know, neither Starlight or Subburst are implied to have romantic feelings for the other, but fans just assume they do because, you know, fans can’t grasp the concept of a platonic friendship. lol!

Again, it’s not uncommon for MLP fand overreacting or interpreting stuff wrongly. Again, many thought, and still thinkand/or claim Celestia is a jerk, who was the bad gut in the fight against Nightmare Moon, or that Fluttershy is a selfish, two faced Wolf in Sheeps Clothing. Or that Sunset in Legend of Eveffree was cruel to Flash, and wanted delibatery to sabotage his relationship with pony Twilight, or at least didn’t care for Twilight’s and Flash’s happiness, which goes completelly against her current character and motivations . Or that Timber is a sexual predator ephebophile. One must know to distance yourself from such crazy, often trolly theories/interpretations/overinterpretations.

Is Starlight at times obsessive?

Yes, but that’s not restricted o her relationship with Sunburst, and she is no way a yandere character. Again, like Twilight (especialy from earlier seasons), she has Super OCD .

The yandere opinion didn’t actually come from me. I only thought she obsessed about various things. I saw people commenting about it when the episode leaked a couple weeks ago so I researched what yandere meant and started using it as a meme. After the episode officially aired, the reactors were the same. Its either she creeps them out or they compare it to anime behavior.

Dunno, I think you are kind really overthinking, and interpreting wrong the behviour of Starlight in a specific situation - again - she felt her bond with Sunburst, her first friendship, had no foundament anymore, hence her beheavior. And you try to apply it to her everday behaviour. I wouldn’t call it yandereish. By the same logic, Twilight is obsessive/yanderish over Starlight, or in the past Celestia. And Starlight just sometimes does get obsessive indeed, but not only with Sunburst - when she was a villain, she had an obsession with Twilight, and even stalked her.

Starlight trying to save everyone - but particulary Twilight and Trixie at the end of season 6 - even when everything seemed lost, and she smashed stuff just with a rock - was also an apperance of her obsessivness, if utilized in a good way:

That’s a quirk of her, but not limited to her relationship with Sunburst.

And really I doubt MLP writers would make Starlight an yandere obsessed over Sunburst - it kinda completelly goes against what the series is for. Again, it seems you assume Starligght treasures Sunburst far more than her friendship with Twilight or Trixie, when we saw tons of evidence to the contary.

And really, one of the foundations of MLP, would be that girls wouldn’t completelly trow their friendship, especially with female friends, over bond with a boy, or crush on him (which isn’t even 100% confirmed with Sunburst). Again, we have allready enough if it on other shows, something Lauren Faust herself noted.

I actually thought their relationship was resolved in Crystalling and they parted in good terms. I never thought anything like Uncommon Bond would ever happen. I’d also like to think there’s more to Starlight’s past why she turned into a villain other than Sunburst leaving her but none is being revealed and no attempts are being made to expand on it. I’ve seen several reactions already. They’re really calling Starlight yandere pony with good reason. Barging into his bedroom at 3am, not being able to sleep thinking about what they’ll do together, breaking the seal into the mirror pool and thinking of making copies of themselves so they can hang out simultaneously at the same time. And then there’s that spell that transforms them into their childhood bodies so they can play a board game that even Twilight thinks is creepy. Much like the IDW version of her, this is the most personality we’ve seen of Starlight. A lot of Starlight fans even thought she was ooc in Uncommon Bond but I think this is just finally a reveal of her character quirk like how Rarity is eccentric or how RD is a jerk.

Nah, she grew as a character since then, she won’t go evil over it. And then it was more complicated, as the situation framed to her the very comcept of Cutie Marks as unfair, and made her her conclude the world is visibly unfair - ie Stalight gone down the route of villainy for mre reasons, than just the seeeming loss of her friendship with Sunburst.

Not to mention, both Trixie and Twilight (ie her first friends after years, and a role model/mentor in Twilight, and essentially a person she owes her new life to, and is very gratefull) are by this point arguably comparably important to her as Sunburst (ie just see the Season 6 finalle).

This was also a very specific situation, were Starlight feared losing her first strong bond, and that maybe she and Sunburst became to different since childhood (ie lost to much of common ground, rather than Starlight, rather than her being onsessed obsessed about “not being out commoned” by another pony with Sunburst.

In other words, both the Uncommon Bond and Starlight’s path to villainy in past, were rather quite specific scenarios, which involved more than just another pony getting close in any way to Sunburst.

Dunno, you seem to have a misconception Stsrlight is something of being (all the time) visibly obsessive, or even maybe a yandere towards Sunburst, when I think, as I explained, it’s more complex situations were at play in both scenario’s. Although Starlight fearing that losing her bond with Sunburst, might again make a worse person, and history repeating itself, might had been another factor making Starlight worried, I’m not sure the writers intended this extra layer when writing this episode.

About the hypothetical scenario, were Sunburst get’s close to another new friend she doesn’t know - again, I’m not sure Starlight will again feel her bond with Sunburst is detoriating, seeing this was resolved in this episode, so I doubt she will think this new friend will threaten her friendship with Sunburst, unless another specifi situation, invlovong more thn just Sunburst getting to know a new pony/person, would be at action.

The way I see it, she was obsessed about “not being out commoned” by another pony with Sunburst. For some reason she was upset that someone else other than herself could connect with him more than her. The Dragon Pit board game was her only connection to him so she didn’t mind sharing that with other ponies as long as it still allowed her to connect with Sunburst. Twilight, Trixie and Maud certainly didn’t care if Starlight could connect more with Sunburst via that game as long as it made their friends happy.

If Starlight was placed in a scenario where her importance in Sunburst’s life was threatened by another pony, how do you think she’d behave especially if the pony threatening that importance was a pony she doesn’t even know? She did turn into a super villain the last time she thought she lost him to his cutie mark.

@hironakamura
To be clear, Starlight was more more worried that her bond/friendship with Starburst has detoriated/lessened, and feared they drift away from each other, rather than was jealous of Maud, Twilight and Trixie, due to hw the recent events unfolded. IE she was jealous of the growing bond of Sunburst with Maud, Trixie and Twilight, more than for Trixie, Twilight and Maud themselves, due to thinking she and Sunburst are growing distant. (At least this is how I see the episode).

With the above solved, and seeing Starlight has great chemistry/a close bomd with Trixie, Maud and Twilight (especially Twilight and Trixie), I think she could theoretically agree for a poly relationship, one or more of the girls, and Sunburst, but YMMV.

Seeing the Chemistry she has with all 4, you could joke it’s Starlight’s harem, with Sunburst’s chemistry with Twilight, Trixie, and Maud being an extra bonus XD (joking, don’t take it too seriously).

Yeah, they kinda do - FlashLight even is the name of an attack of FlashMan.EXE from MegaMan Battle Network/NT Warrior .

Wonder what would happen if Starlight visits Sunburst in the Crystal Empire and he introduces her to his crystal pony friends? And what if one of those friends is a mare that can’t shut up about how much she has a crush on Sunburst. I remember in posts where Sunburst is shipped with Twilight or Moondancer, people would say Starlight probably wouldn’t mind. After Uncommon Bond, its interesting to think how Starlight would deal with it. Considering Twilight, Trixie and Maud were also her friends, it already slightly upset her. But what if it was a completely indifferent pony trying to get between her and Sunburst?

Wait, Starlight doesn’t enjoy Starburst (ie Starlight x Starburst)?

@laofuzi
Actually, SunLight is allready taken as one of the names for the Twilight Sparkle x Sunset Shimmer ship - it’s as popular, or more on the net as the pairing name SunsetSparkle (used by Derpibooru). Naming Sunburst x Twilight the same would be just to confusing, and for example Derpibooru uses the TwiBurst name for Sunburst x Twilight.
