Twilight always told Spike to stay away from the crystals she used in the basement, that they were meant for a special event. It was just a matter of time before his curiosity got the better of him, and all it took was a single touch.
 
The runes immediately flourished as an unseen force latched unto the poor drake and began dragging him closer to the summoning gate. You see, the ritual promised anypony’s heart’s desire; be it immeasurable power, strength, speed, or in this case… knowledge.
 
There was a catch though; a willing sacrifice was required, and Twilight knew deep inside her that Spike would be the perfect candidate for the experiment. All she needed to do was set something up that would eventually lure his curious little mind towards it…
