@Background Pony #64A1
Why are you laying all the blame on me? I’ll admit I probably didn’t help the situation, but it was Tyrranux who brought up Starlight to begin with when, as mod patec has so kindly pointed out, she’s not even relevant to this picture.
@Tyrranux
Way to strawman everything I wrote. That was not my intention in the slightest. I can assure you I am fully capable of recognizing her flaws and that I am not on any high horse right now. You, on the other hand, seem to completely lack the capacity to accept her strengths and merits along with her flaws.
Yes, Starlight certainly had a rocky reformation (particularly at the start), but she’s not nearly as bad as those examples you’ve brought up, especially given her more recent episodes.
@cloudkicker108
In other words, Fuck anyone who has a problem with Starlight to begin with, Dhx wants you to love her for the perfect little snowflake she is no matter how little effort they actually put into her character so just shut up and take it like a good little brony. I mean that’s what all that amounted to right? Leave Starlight alone?
Tell you what, explain to me why Sasuke Uchiha should have been the main hero instead of Naruto. Explain why it was a good call to have Slimer be the focus of the Real Ghostbusters. Explain how Justin was the single redeeming quality of Power Rangers Turbo, Explain how much better Fairly Oddparents got when they introduced Cloe. Explain why Vegeta gets to be Goku’s other half while everyone from Piccolo and Tien are just left to rot. And explain to every wrestling fan still upset over Roman Reigns why they should just shut the fuck up already. Then you can ride that high horse of yours from here to Timbuktu and back laughing at the rest of us.
@Tyrranux
The point of Starlight’s reformation was to give her a new start. Why proactively bring up her past to everyone then? If anyone asks, it will be up to Starlight to explain herself and own up to her misdeeds. Twilight, Thorax, and Sunburst have all voiced their disappointment with her at one point or another. The our town ponies forgave Starlight because they wanted to find closure and move on; they aren’t excusing all the horrible things Starlight had done. It’s not unlike how in real life family members of a murder victim will forgive the murderer because they don’t want to live the rest of their lives with rage in their hearts. Having little faith in yourself can be just as crushing as having everyone look down on you. As Spike learned in “Equestria Games”, all the praise in the world means nothing if you can’t feel good about yourself. Accepting that you’ve made mistakes in the past instead of pretending they don’t exist at all is important in rehabilitation. If Starlight’s means of doing so is bringing up her past in conversation, so be it.
Convincing the school to accept her was certainly an obstacle for Sunset, but it was also the only obstacle she had to face. Unlike Starlight, she had no doubts whatsoever that she was a changed person and that she could be a productive member of society. Without any screentime to show how she reached that point from her much more forced (relative to Starlight anyway) initial heel-face turn in the first movie, that entire process might as well have happened instantaneously. Moreover, just because Starlight didn’t have to deal with external pressure like Sunset does not mean she didn’t face any hardships. Starlight’s struggles are internal; she had to learn to overcome her own mental anguish and self-depreciation, something which Sunset seemingly did not have to endure. As anyone who has suffered from major depression can tell you, sometimes the greatest pain comes from what you bring upon yourself.
The main point here is that both had to face their own unique set of trials to become a better individual. If you like Sunset more than Starlight, that’s fine. However, that does not mean Sunset is 100% perfect or that Starlight is getting off scott free for her past misdeeds.
@cloudkicker108
Tell me, how many Ponies even know about what Starlight did? How many people would have reason to condemn her? Just the Mane Six and the residents of Our Town? Everyone else in Ponyville and elsewhere just think of her as that one pony who gets to hang out with Princess Twilight because reasons? Hmmm, neat. And of the ponies who not only know of what Starlight did and would thus have reason to condemn her, how many actually did condemn and ostracized her? None? That’s weird, then how long did it take that for the residents of Our Town to actually forgive Starlight? About ten seconds? During a fucking song? So then where is all this “hardships” you speak of? Ohhhhh, her constantly being a self pitying moper and having to remind the others she was a villain. Right.
So then ummmm, how many Ponies Humans even know about what Sunset did in Canterlot High? How many people would have reason to condemn her? The whole goddamn school? Everyone knows her as that bitch who made everyone’s live hell? And of the humans who not only know of what Sunset did and would thus have reason to condemn her, how many actually did condemn her? The whole goddamn school? And how long did it take for Canterlot High to actually forgive Sunset? A whole goddamn movie? About an hour or so of time more than what Starlight got? So then where are Sunset’s hardships coming from? Actually having to face the consequences of making everyone’s life miserable by basically being treated the same way by those who she tormented? Hmmm, interesting….
@Evil Emperor Proteus
And you’re being unnecessarily belligerent. If you’re going to disagree with him or call him out, at least do it civilly.
@Tyrranux
The plot doesn’t bend backwards for Starlight either. She’s gone through plenty of her own hardships. In fact, it could be argued she has experienced more than Sunset ever did.
@Background Pony #16FE
You’re so full of shit it’s shooting out of your nose and mouth. Not surprising you had to hide behind anonymity like a coward to say such terrible nonsense.
@Background Pony #16FE
Oh yeah, being absolutely hated by the entire school (and even the Humane Five to some degree) for all the shit she’s done on top of the Dazzlings’ magic influencing the school’s negative emotions to max levels, forcing her to own up to how much of a shit person she was, stop moping about and earn her reformation by helping the Human Five at their most dire hour. The plot bent over backwards for “little miss perfect” indeed, are you sure you’re not just describing Starlight Glimmer?
@Tyrranux
Mostly by making the rest of the humane 5 even bigger idiots than the first movie and Twilight completely useless. While the film bends over to ridiculous levels to suddenly have Sunset be little miss perfect.
@Evil Emperor Proteus
That or is too disillusioned by Starlight’s forced prominence to even believe Sunset would be allowed to come back from her current purgatory….
Yeah Sunset is canon actually. Equestria Girls is canon. The writers said it. Then the company said it. Then a scene from Equestria Girls and related characters appeared in the main show. It’s canon. Anyone saying otherwise is a stinking troll or just delusional.
@Background Pony #F126
Not necessarily. We only know that they used the sirens designs from EQG due to the script refering to it (where else would they get it) but they never mention anything EQG related in the episode. The sirens are originally inhabitants to Equestria and not the EQG world and they didn’t indicate where they went so their world is not automatically invoked. They may change that in the future by mentioning the EQG universe. On top of that Sirens also appear in comics now. Call me what you want but that is the situation.
