Okay, since you guys have managed to not solve the riddle in more than a week, here’s the answer
 
The colt used the knife to stealthily killed the rooster that has been cockadoodling doo in every morning, thus allowing him to sleep pass the morning light without being disturbed
 
(Yes, I know, terrible riddle! I should’ve been less subtle with the question; I got this idea from an original riddle where the man used a gun instead of a knife)

I suppose I will take a ‘stab’ at answering the riddle; The colt went outside & cut out his eyes so he would never see the sun again but not get blood on his floor, yet lived because cutting out your eyes would not necessarily kill you, thus allowing him to wake up the next morning. I am sure I could figure out the answer if I gave it some thought, but I am tired so here is my lazy guess. XD

He murderd Celestia with that knife and then used dark magics to revive Nigthmare Moon who then brought about an eternal nigth. He then went to sleep in her chambers and woke up the next morning.

TMW Anon realized that trying to get past the Sphinx by flirting with her instead of attempting her riddle may not have been the best idea…
 
Or it may have been a better idea than he thought; depends on how Anon would feel about a massive catpony attempting to give a comparatively tiny man some snu-snu… My guess is his spine wouldn’t be too keen on the idea, as would the rest of the bones in his body!

I don’t even understand the riddle…
 
Why would getting his knife out do anything to stop him from seeing the light ?  
Why never being able to see the light would stop him from waking up ?  
And also why would someone not want to wake up to the sun ?
 
Are the answers to those questions clues to the answer of the riddle ?
