Actually, the whole alpha-omega hierarchy is an outdated concept. More recent studies have found that the wolf hierarchy, for example, is more based on parental authority than any fight for dominance.  
The episode teaches, that any society needs guardians to protect them from external threats. However, this doesn’t make said guardians any better than other contributing members of society (and I’m saying this as a defence force conscript).
 
I do agree that the hive’s gone from one bad extreme to the other though. I hope that Pharynx gets to influence the internal politics, so maybe they can find a better balance between “progressive” friendship culture and national defendism, like Equestria has.  
Maybe things are now crazy just because they’re in a transitional period. They’ll probably experience a cultural boom that defines their newborn nation as cultural pioneers rise from their numbers. It may be completely different from what their community looks like right now. We can only hope.

True! Just when I thought they’d accepted him for being a true Alpha male, they just feminized him like there rest of them. I felt kinda sad because the whole lesson that was supposed to be learned here was completely undermined. You shouldn’t demonize someone just because he refuses to become a identical clone to the rest of the herd.
