You don’t have to put up with any themes you don’t like, because filtering exists. The majority should not have the power to squelch the minority just because they don’t like their work for taste reasons.

Shitty by whose standards, yours? If they had that many upvotes, then quite a few people liked it. Anyway, removing downvotes isn’t perfect in every situation either, but I think it’s better than the alternative.

Y’know what? Screw it. I’m never posting a pic here again. Almost every single thing i put on here gets downvoted into oblivion. At least on DA, if nobody likes it, it’s silent. On here it’s very vocal

but then when you try and cater to that minority with the less accepted fetishes, sonic images etc you end up kind of telling the majority to put up with this small group and what obviously happened was most people didn’t like that.

Hmm. I think the site was better off with downvotes gone, for the sake of people who make art consisting of themes many people automatically downvote instead of filter, regardless of quality (certain ships, Sonic images, less accepted fetishes, etc).
 
Can’t say I care all that much, though.

Problem is, then you wouldn’t be able to sort images by score, or have the “trending images” list. I mean, you could do that by counting favorites, but I think that’s less reliable than upvotes because people don’t fave as often.
 
IMO, I would prefer they keep the system that lets the whole community sort the images by quality. Even downvotes, despite its abuse, was intended to send poor images and unfunny memes to the back of the list.

Here’s what really happens. The majority of the people who create the kind of content that gets objected to the most are encouraged by downvotes to do more of it. If anything people who create stuff like incest or grimdark art etc should be on the side of those who want to keep downvotes. Call it ‘inspiration fuel’. The only thing artists who create such content should concern themselves with is not letting other peoples objections get to them. Keep creating no matter what because for every hater there’s ten people out there who will appreciate what you do.

A little ridiculous to call a single comment stating my opinion a ‘crusade’. It’s not like I’m going out looking for every single discussion regarding the subject and stating my annoyance with it.

I was gone for a couple days and I come back to this. What happened?

What i’ve learned yesterday: a part people truly believe downvotes system is a tool to change mind and/or control other people who are totally not in power on DB, and the most part of that part was very unsatisfied when the stuff tried to take this tool away. Technically, this subset is the loudest among other subsets of disappointed ones.
 
If you’re a teacher in the school, you know what else looks like that.

Really with the way that some art gets floods of upvotes OR downvotes - with all the users who game the system by encouraging upvoting/downvoting of individual pics / pics by specific artists, might as well do away with the upvoting and downvoting completely.
 
Just need two options instead, both personal rather than being visible community-wide…favourite, and hide/disfave.

No it pissed off the downvote brigade because they couldn’t downvote art they don’t agree with. Instead of behaving like reasonable adults and ignoring art they find objectionable the rest of us have to put up with their immaturity because m’morals.

Seriously, though if you find something ‘sick’ block the tag. This site has a pretty robust blocking system. While it’s not perfect it does a good enough job most of the stuff I don’t like is blocked. Btw It’s dumb that people even get bothered by the existence of ART they’re not into. It’s just pixels.

Time to unsubscribe from this picture.  
At least now I know who not to talk to in the future.
