      Viruses can't live warm temperatures. Viruses need cold and dry conditions. That and the amount of time it takes for storage and shipping is much longer than it lives. You need to worry about what's on your packaged food. All those people touching everything in the store. Coughed on, sneezed on.     I am reasonably confident that viruses cannot survive the canning process, and that cooking meat thoroughly kills them too. You should always cook pork thoroughly.

    All cured meat increases one's chances of getting stomach cancer, so it is considered to be a carcinogen.

    Purely uneducated opinion here but I think if the virus was on the food it would be dead by the time it arrived in the stores. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be) I don't think the virus lasts more than a couple days on surfaces.

Sadly the US government has massive warehouses of laying hens for flu vaccine use that could be tapped to fill the need but that could impact the availability of the vaccines.

    As for "wet food markets" I suspect that half the world , possibly much more get the bulk of thier meat/animal based food from such places.

    I've certainly seen them many places I've been or seen programs on.

    The real problem is what some people eat.
    wild meat , bush meat , call it what you like ,
    that is the real problem.

    What is needed is comprehensive worldwide cooperation with bans on all trade in high risk wildlife , starting with complete bans on endangered and rare species.

    To get that , you'd have to start with China.

    Good luck with that ,
    but that's where the starting point is needed.
