First, I do not appreciate being verbally attacked; I am not delusional. Second, I am well aware what Hasbro says is technically speaking the end all. I’m just saying that we shouldn’t forget that Hasbro, as a large corporation, more often than not gives out answers and decisions from a business perspective. I mean, do you honestly believe their executives care about the lore of Equestria anywhere near as much as say someone actually working on the show at DHX?

@Mugen Kagemaru
Please don’t bother, it’s not worth it.
That may be the case, but like your Queen Celestia and G1 ponies examples, their decisions aren’t always the right or correct ones. They are often giving answers just for the sake of giving answers and simplicity.
Honestly, Hasbro’s the end-all be-all of it,
since if it weren’t for them, Celestia would be Queen and the Mane 6 would be G1 ponies.

Only if you’re crazy enough to actually care about that kind of thing. (If you are, more power to ya. Just… good luck.)
And you are acting unnecessarily hostile. I don’t expect you to agree with everything I say, but when has offering input in a debate ever been shitposting and baiting? If there’s anyone here who’s trying to get a rise out of someone else (aside from you and your ridiculous accusations), it’s Mugen Kagemaru. He’s the one who directly responded to me with a rebuttal of what I said when this thread had already been silent for two whole months.
You’re definitely shit posting and just trying to get a rise out of us. This is as far as I indulge your baiting.

I’m sorry, but how is that unambiguous? There many different ways “Twi had this experience and learned something from it” could be interpreted in terms of canon.

Why are you being so hostile? I’m not trying to start an argument here and certainly wasn’t shitposting. If you do know of instance where that occured, I really would like to hear about it.

I acknowledge your troll/shit post.
Here we gooooooooo! :D

Have we ever received an unambiguous confirmation from someone actually working on the show (i.e. not Hasbro in general) that EQG is canon? I’m legitimately curious, because I don’t recall we ever have.

>we’ve still yet to receive any word from DHX (or anyone who works on the show) about the matter that isn’t ambiguous or vague
That’s the stuff, when they see a statement from a rep that isn’t “it’s not canon” they start performing trillion hyper mega quantum mental backflips.
Doesn’t matter if reps say it’s canon or not, there are people who wish so much that it wasn’t that they will say and do anything to make it seem it isn’t.
To be fair, we’ve still yet to receive any word from DHX (or anyone who works on the show) about the matter that isn’t ambiguous or vague, so it’s not exactly surprising that this topic is still being debated within the fandom. As for this thread in particular, it had already gone quiet for two months before you posted your comment.
Canon is super cereal.
I know, right?

…We’re STILL having this debate?
It’s partial canon. This is a concept that is prevalent in many settings, including things like Star Trek and Star Wars. You can’t expect everyone involved to be part of some kind of hive-mind who all know how what they’re writing will fit into everything, and expecting everyone to be aware of the sum-total of all lore of a setting is way too much to ask.
Partial canon means major events occur, but the details are up for re-interpretation by the primary medium(in this case, the FiM cartoon) and if the primary medium states or implies something that contradicts the partial canon materials, the primary medium comes first, and can overrule them. For example, if the comic says King Sombra came back, he came back, until the cartoon states or implies he didn’t, or if the cartoon decides to do it’s own version of King Sombra coming back, that version immediately overwrites the comic version.
But don’t the comics run on one continuous lore like the show? How can certain parts be canon and other portions not? Have the comics ever contradicted themselves between arcs? Logically, it should be an all or nothing situation regarding the canon.
Simple solution: the arcs that contradict the show are non-canon, the arcs that the show later contradicts are retconned, and the arcs that currently fit with the show are kosher… for now.

Well, I do expect it to have its own consistency, at least. The cmc look 12-13 in EQG but more like 10-12 in pony form. Conversely the Humane six look roughly 18 whereas the mane six have to be in the earl twenties by now. I get that there is a time lag because Shimmer went in when she was around 15 and Twilight was around 8 and Twilight shows up roughly the same age as Shimmer.
You’re assuming that time works the same way in the human world.
