Just look at it; it’s pure garbage and doesn’t even make sense half of the time

I’d argue that most bronies that are still part of the fandom do sincerely believe this. It unfortunately still has 4chan roots, and that’s why there’s still Horse News, and there is a bunch of shitposting-type stuff that goes on, not at all helped by what’s happening in the real world, but that’s generally a minority to most (IMO) who still like this show for its inventiveness, its characters, and the sense of community it created.
 
It is just that as the fandom wanes, its shedding those that are sincere about their love, and leaving the “4chan core”, making the fandom as a whole look more and more nasty.

See, this fandom is truly garbage if we continue to treat our artists like shit. He may not have the best art style, but there’s no need to completely go ape on him and harass him repetitively. There’s no place for such bullying in this fandom.

I think the difference here is that Price learned how to draw Spike over time. I’m not sure if Fosgitt is working to improve just yet, at one point he was criticized fairly for his inconsistent backgrounds and his recent work has a lot of characters standing around in voids. So we’ll see.

Yes, every fandon has bad apples, but there was something about Fosgitt’s art that drew out the worst (check nearly any image under the Fosgitt tag above to see how much hate some of these images generated).
 
My guess is that the reason Fosgitt gets the hate is that because his arts isn’t Andy Price or Tony Fleecs levels, who do tend to draw more show accurate and with more detail. (and even when Andy or Tony go “off-script” per se, there’s viscous comments leveled at that. See, “spike” “artist:andypriceart” images for example) If MLPFIM #1 issue started with Fogsitt with no other marker to compare to, I doubt he’d get anywhere near the hate he gets now.
 
Of course, that poses the counter problem. Fosgitt’s art works fine in rotation (any Animaniacs fans would appreciate the comparison that if Andy Price was TMS, Fleecs is Akom, and Fosgitt is around Startoons-level, but doesn’t fall to Freelance) but if it what lead off the series, I doubt it would be as popular as it was with Andy’s work leading it. It’s not show-style, obviously, and I think Andy’s detailed style contributed greatly to the success of the first arc.
 
So we’re obviously going to compare Jay’s work to the original example, and I can’t deny that Jay’s looks are “worse”, but they’re not bad, there’s definitely sense of motion and fluidity (hi Silver Quill!)
 
If you want bad, I remind everyone of Friends Forever #1 (see spoiler:comicff01 ) I’d still not attack the artist over that, just acknowledge that it has a LOT of faults that are irrecoverable, whereas Jay’s worked to improve.

Jay Fosgitt is to bronies what Zamii070 is to Steven Universe fans, i.e. they’re both innocent artists that have been harassed and cyberbullied by so-called “fans” simply because they don’t like the way they draw. So much for the (loving and) tolerant left fandom.

That right there. This. Honestly it’s easy to give any sort of criticism, but much more worthwhille if it is going to be constructive and helpful.

Would that work, given that this artist said “My art gets approved from editors and Hasbro, so that should be validation enough for anyone?” You have to want help before help will actually help you. Otherwise people just waste their time.

No, people will keep their standards and opinions and shouting “REEEEEE, stop hurting people’s feelings; he just wants to shit out low-quality pony art with cutie marks literally copy-pasted in from google images and get PAID for it!” won’t change that  
Consumers expect something decent, and Jay Fosgitt is simply not providing that in his artwork

It sucks that people can be shitty. I guess people vocalize because they really care, but don’t know how to phrase things in productive ways, or they’re just bored and enjoy schadenfreude. I guess as a human being, it’s possible to recognize that people are being less than productive/trolling and guide people toward more productive feedback.
 
I feel sorry that he’s frustrated, but I don’t think it’s going to stop anyone from what they’re already doing.
 
Because it’s relevant, good constructive criticism should consist of:  

I feel legit bad for him. The guy is just a comic artist, doing what he loves, but certain parts of the community (like Derpibooru, for example) want nothing more than to ruin his enjoyment.

he is right about there being people far too extreme with the criticism. but at the same time it is true that what goes wrong needs a certain level of criticism.
 
i think a major issue is that honestly, the quality of the comics is less than the show in tis storytelling. true the show is far from perfect, bt they have legitimately used exceptionally contrived means to resolve conflicts, and even create them.

No one knows.. Maybe for money, maybe he might have enjoyed it. We don’t know. But I do hope he stays after this. He’s a pretty good artist and no one deserves what he’s been through.

Why does he keep the job if it is causing him so many problems?

Nothing is beyond reproach yes, but sometimes the fight is useless at best, destructive at worst.
 
The old saying goes “just because you have the right, doesn’t always make it a good idea”.

Well, there are just times where people need to sit back and just try to think it out. There’s a difference bewtween a legitimate critique and even negative critisism and flat out hate and harrasment. H isn’t above it, there is a point where enough.

How about instead if you are going to “critique” something you act like you got some goddamn shame when you do it?

His art seems fine to me. Definitely looks different but that’s to be expected when you’re working with two completely different mediums using different tools.

I know, and he gets that he’s aware of it. But even then, he still at least tries. Call me over optimistic or nwhatever, but if he really didn’t try the comics he produced would be less than what they are to many. I mean, he understands he’s going to get critisism. But it’s going to get to a point where some crititism goes into straight up hate..
