scolding means telling someone they did a bad job, then getting angry when they ask you to explain, right? when has that ever done anyone any good?

the humor gets really bitter, bordering on spiteful, more just making characters do stupid things than exploring their actual character flaws and weaknesses. we should be able to sympathize with the characters, even if we’re laughing at them. they were doing it right in “rdp: yellow star” when rainbow dash makes an autobiography that’s awful and stupid and full of errors, and yet it’s totally adorable because of how excited she is about creating something, and then she mentions that she’s self taught and you’re like “…oh.”
 
that’s what makes a good parody IMO. it was a lot funnier and more touching than in this animation, where starlight was totally calm about murder, just to make a statement about how she got reformed too easily. matter of fact, the early concept for this animation was hilarious:
 

 
but then the resentment about what the show did crept in. you can’t make fun of something if you’re actually upset about what you’re trying to joke about. it just doesn’t work. comedy only works if you can forgive the people you’re poking fun at, and play with them rather than lashing out at them.

that and the fact that there’ve never been any for a year, and I dunno how popular they are.
 
I think they’re fun, but too butthurt… not that I was a huge fan of MAS in the first place. flimflamfilosophy is an awesome animator though. he can make still frames seem like movement!

This little snippet has “mistake” written all over it.

Wait… He’s done with RDP too??!! :( I know MAS was turning stale to where he was going with it that the /show/ itself was going there… Buut I never heard about the RDPs… Those were always my fav’s

I’m kind of bummed he’s done with MAS and RDP. I always felt they were far better then Friendship is witchcraft.
