They work fine to me, though in the “canon” Blackest Night Equestria, Celestia becomes the White Lantern.

Twi was the first Yellow Lantern because Cynos-Zilla drew her as one. When other fans and myself began writing short fiction pieces about them, that lead to things like Trixie and Luna as Yellow Lanterns.

Speaking of which, where would Sci Twi and Sunset fall on the emotional spectrum?
 
Sci Twi may have the same nature as Twilight but definitely different nurture, she was not raised by Celestia and is not a fear driven person.

Sci Twi 3rd movie to 4th movie, she crossed the emotional spectrum from being tempted by the Orange(Faustian temptation of knowledge) to Green(Able to surpass fear in herself)
 
Sunset 1st movie to 2nd movie, she slowly crossed the emotional spectrum from a very ambitious yellow lantern to a blue lantern, and from the 2nd to the 3rd and 4th movie, awakening of her element of empathy and to touch the hearts and minds of others and understand all emotions made her transition into a white lantern.

Having Twilight as a yellow lantern leader is a good choice.
 
Pony Twi’s life is controlled by fear. She’s defined by it. Yellow Lanterns aren’t incapable of being good, but adhering fear in themselves and enforcing it is what drives them to become powerful and become control freaks, and they often become addicted to the latter. Despite Twi having very holey morals even in the later seasons(Amending Fences-type episodes are still in short supply), her own fear of failing Celestia surpasses her ability to inflict control on others, and despite being a definite control freak, she doesn’t have a high capacity for intentional ill intent.

In this setting, she’s the leader of the Equestrian Yellow Lanterns. She steps down, her most likely replacement would be a still-arrogant and vengeful Trixie, And she’d have an army of uplifted via yellow power ring monsters listening to her. I doubt Twi is willing to let that mess loose on Equestria.

Would Twi still be yellow, or has she grown into something else by now?
