So, after watching the season 7 premiere, the scene with Starlight looking at the mirror that Twilight gave her reminded me of two things. First, the mirror line “Despite everything, it’s still you” in the pacifist run from Undertale. And secondly, after thinking it over some more, said line from Undertale reminded of an inspirational quote by MLK Jr., which is specifically what the text in the screencap comic is referencing. The screencaps correspond with the respective portions of the quote, and the last screencap in particular has parallels with the aforementioned quote from Undertale, hence the idea for this screencap comic. Since her debut and eventual reformation, Starlight has certainly come a long way from what she used to be. Despite everything that she’s done, she is still Starlight Glimmer, a pony that I’ve been fond of since her debut. <3
With that said, overall, I enjoyed the season 7 premiere, and I look forward to what’s in store for this season! :D

While I don’t completely agree with all of your points, you provided a good and thought out response nonetheless. :)
@Dave Berrow
Much obliged, as I try to be thorough in my articulations. :)
@SunnySide
Regarding what?
My general distaste for drama? If so, does that mean you actually “enjoy” drama, or that you merely don’t mind it that much?
Or, perhaps, you think I’m full of crap? Either, because you don’t think I meant any of what I said, or because my entire explanation was garbage? If the former, I’m not lying, but that’s your problem. If the latter, well, it’s not like you did yourself any favors. You assumed what you didn’t know and gave me flack for it, I gave you an explanation to call you out on it, and you were left with sunny side up egg on your face.
Y’know what, that’s it. I wasn’t originally going to bother with this, but I feel like saying it now because you sicken me:
Well then, it looks like I was wrong about you. I was simply going to drop this and just say that you misunderstood me, plus, I wasn’t going to say anything on that image. However, having seen and thought about said grievance of yours, this makes me question why you would even bother be here on this image macro to begin with. I guess that makes me an “asskisser of hers” in your eyes, huh? If that’s the case, then I clearly see what’s going on here. You were already annoyed with the “asskissers” as it were, and decided to [conveniently] deny the antecedent and make a straw man out of my eye rolling towards fandom drama (Starlight drama, in this case), and then virtue signal me on how imperative it is to respect others’ opinions without antagonizing them. That, is the impression you gave me, and it disgusts me to no end. Tell me, were you intentionally trying to start shit with me because you were in a foul mood, but then reconsidered it after I gave you a piece of my mind?! I don’t like humans in general very much, and I have very little patience with sanctimonious and impertinent trite, if the demeanor of my previous response was any indication.
I get that you despise Starlight, and that’s fine. However, given said antipathy towards her, coupled with your grievances towards her “asskissers”, why don’t you just filter Starlight Glimmer and be done with it? That, but also allow yourself to see glimmerbuse (and similar content like that), as you seem to derive epicaricasy towards her. No really, why don’t you just do that so you don’t have to see any more of the “Starlight crap” and “asskissing” that irks you so much? If you really weren’t trying to instantiate a quarrel, then I find it rather odd that you chose not to filter her out for the aforementioned reasons in the first place. Quite frankly, you are not helping your case, and you have no one but yourself to blame for willfully coming across this image macro that I made for fun a while ago. And if by some off chance you did filter her out already, then I question your actions for being here all the more. Also, if for some reason the “asskissing” you were specifically referring to was your grievance with the show itself, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Having said all that, while I disagree entirely with the narrative that you put here >>1461999, I like how you drew Starlight. In particular, I especially like the way you drew her eyes, which looks lovely. If the artist was someone else and you just posted it, nevertheless, my point still stands. Seriously though, I don’t mean this ironically.
||What? Are you surprised that I’m not mad at the nature of the image itself? Are you annoyed that I’m unironically complementing on how Starlight was drawn because by doing so, I’m “asskissing” her (paradoxical to the intent of the image)? No, I’m not trolling, I’m just morbidly curious at the thought of what your response to this would be. ||
Edited because: Paragraph structure tweak
There are things I both love and hate about Starlight. On one hand, I love how the writers are willing to make redemption a recurring theme as well as a character arc, Starlight is genuinely adorable in plenty of appearances, she was an effective villain before her redemption, and as of late she’s become a more active hero, even without her magic. But on the other, I hate how shallow her initial motivations were, how the other characters are made worse in her appearances, her fleeting inability to learn that magic is not a plaything, and her increased prominence compared to the others. I feel like Starlight, a character I can admire, could be infinitely better had they just kept the show as is and tried working her around that instead of making everything revolve around her fixing things.
I can’t stop anyone from liking or hating Starlight; that’s their opinion. I’m glad Starlight has grown into a better pony, and I hope her character arc reaches a satisfying conclusion in the long run. And I doubt she’ll be going, anytime soon. Hats off to ya, Purple Smart 2.0.
She actually disagrees entirely.
Explanation well done, I bet he understands you now!

Actually, you seem to misunderstand what I said. First of all, I agree that everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Also, if people don’t like Starlight (or even hate her), I could care less. For example, if you don’t like Starlight, that’s fine, and I get why you wouldn’t like her. I just roll my eyes at the drama in the fandom, not the “differing opinions” themselves (even if I don’t agree with them). Y’know, the drama doesn’t even have to involve Starlight as the subject matter for me to “roll my eyes” at the fandom. The reason why I said “>inb4 Starlight drama in the comment section” is because I figured “y’know, it would just be my luck if there’s drama in the the comments not necessarily just because of the subject matter of the image, but because the fandom is full of drama, and it can come up in the least likely of places” (even though I’m not purposely trying to start shit for the sake of general duckery). That, and because the S7 premiere just aired recently. I’m cynical towards any drama (in the fandom or elsewhere), though I sometimes find it amusing because of how counterproductive it can be.
I’ve been into the show since early S2, and I know all about the drama. Given that you’ve been around for just as long (if not longer than me), you know all about the drama as well. Remember the drama from Derpygate, Twilicorn, Flash Sentry, and so on? Yeah, I rolled my eyes at that past drama (not the opinions themselves) then, just as I do now with the modern drama now. Having seen all of this over the years, excuse me if I find it hard to take drama (not “opinions”) seriously without rolling my eyes or laughing at how silly it can get. If I was really “bitching” about “the fandom’s opinion”, then I would have just said “>inb4 Starlight haters in the comment section” instead. That, would actually be “antagonizing people about it”. If I was trying to be a “jerk”, then I would’ve had a duck badge by now (plus, I thought ChuymaruZ was just being facetious). Sorry, but I just don’t care for drama (whether its from haters or fanboys), nor do I like it when humans assume things that aren’t true. If you assumed that I said that “little bit” in the description because I’m some “rabid Starlight fanboy who flips shit over the slightest “differing opinion” about her that isn’t positive”, then you assumed wrong. Drama is drama, and I don’t discriminate, regardless of the subject matter. That, is my opinion. Don’t like it? That’s fine. However, don’t lecture me on “respecting differing opinions” if you disagree with it, or assume (again) that I don’t “respect differing opinions”. However, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that this was just a misunderstanding, okay?
|| >inb4 Tu Quoque (hypocrisy fallacy) is directed at me because my post is deemed “dramatic” due to unintentionally causing drama because of it.
>Just my luck… rolls eyes and laughs cynically at the thought XD ||
People are allowed to have opinions, and I understand why starlight would be kind of a bad character, there’s no need to freaking antagonize people about it.
Yeah, I mean, just look at Crystal Neighbyana…
Nonsense
Some people’s opinions have changed over the course of the past season
Im sorry… I couldnt help…
