I’m not sure exactly what method they used, but for the Fimfiction side of it, they may have included shipping stories where the searched-for characters were side characters to a different ship. They’ve also used FFN and ao3, but the numbers from there are rather low for duplicates to be much of a problem.
 
Plus - while uploaders are better at tagging their own works over there - we have mods, assistants and users adding and correcting tags here on Derpi.

This postpretty much covers it. Also rarity x spike is by and far the most shipped pairing hands and hooves down. Selectively applying some arbitrary filter is just for attempts at making something “look” like a legitimize arguement.
 
Adding fiction and art together I was gonna say appledash might edge out, but having checked tags twidash seems to have had a resurgence in art lately. So discounting spike, it looks like twidash>appledash>flutterdash/rarijack with art and fiction.
 
Really these numbers are still misleading due to duplicates, mis/untagged and pieces that aren’t even posted to either site. and should minor edits be counted as separate pieces (not imo)?
 
Props to the person that made the chart though, given that fimfic probably has better tag usage than derpi, I’m sure this chart is fairly close in the fiction department.

Because art doesn’t need to have a believable story to be appreciated. It’s much harder to believe the two can have a healthy relationship (read: they can’t, really :P) in a story without one or the other seeming OOC.

I reckon it was because it was a pie chart without any indication of where the data came from or how they collected it. Source mentions several fanfic sites, but it could’ve been Derpibooru tags or made-up numbers for all the image tells us.

Oh this is percentages of ship content based on the site “fimfiction”.

Probably this. There are also people who get mad when the m6 are portrayed as homosexual as well. “What?! Fluttercord/Cheesepie/Rarimac isn’t on this?! DOWNVOTED!”. Also the people who get peeved at shipping in general. Upvoting; for statistics and for chuckles.

Or one could randomly choose another set of pairings to ignore and say it’s, i dunno, flutterdash, twijack and raripie? That ‘top valid pairing’ is pretty irrelevant.
