I datamined on this artist a bit. He’s been on dA for eleven years plus he looks kinda old judging by his devID and his taste in music (30+ year old man who hasn’t outgrown acting like an internet tough guy… check,) he likes watching Penn & Teller: Bullshit! (militant atheist… check,) he likes HP Lovecraft and, judging by this comic dead baby jokes too (edgelord… check) and he does nothing but draw stuff like this bitching about fandoms he personally dislikes (check.)
When a 40-year-old failtroll calls you a manchild for liking ponies and then draws a comic of a character who is very clearly himself explaining why what you like is wrong, that’s surely a deviantART moment.
@headlessrainbow
Female. And what’s it supposedly saying is that MLP fans are tasteless idiots who shove their love of the show in everyones’ faces.
What it actually is is a trolling attempt by building a strawman, then retreating behind the excuse of only meaning the “obnoxious” fans, even though that’s clearly not what the pic itself says. So, lying on top of everything.
I’d try my very best to be insulted if I even understood what this was trying to say. I guess some elderly person is mad that their nostalgia isn’t popular anymore? I’m betting in 30-40 years, MLP fans will be bitching about some new show that is super popular at the time.
Also is that creature in the pink shirt a male or female?
@Rpground
Batman TAS is in large parts great because of its villains. What they did for Mister Freeze was incredible. And the music is simply gorgeous.
@Corrderio
I honestly could not/cannot watch Batman, at all. He is way too much of a Gary Stu, and a hypocrite for that matter, for me. The metric tons of bullshit, in terms of story, I have to swallow for it to be even remotely believable is insanity.
The only Batman I ever liked was the campyness of the Adam West’s Batman…and that was because of the camp. But, I suppose that says a lot more about my tastes then anything else, haha!
@angrybrony
I was about to, but then I read some of the tripe he used to reply to some people.
Childishly, and constantly, pointing out “Love and Tolerance” which fuck that noise. No one blindly turns the other cheek and says “May I have another?” He is purposely trying to start a problem.
Second he, again childishly, can’t even type properly…“Poonys”…my god, are you 8? He’s also already admitted that he purposely targeted the lowest of the low hanging fruit. Fruit so low that potatos look down upon them.
So what’s the point, he’s purposely looking for a fight. I just wanted to say something because, as is my nature, I voice my opinions…even if the original artist doesn’t see them. Besides, I’ve already tried this before with that one guy with those stupid robot thing that was copying Happy Tree Friends. I talked rationally, even tried to bloody befriend the guy, explaining that not everyone is bad. Literally held my hand out, I got shat on then blocked from his deviantart.
Doesn’t change that I’m going to voice my opinion on the matter. I believe the saying, here, is “I’ve been bit one to many times.”
Yes, but there is also nothing wrong with watching cartoons today that are good. It’s sad to constantly look to the past for a source of pleasure. Nice strawman, though.
I would also argue that Rocko’s Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy had some of the most disgusting and ugly animation, by both today’s standards and the standards of yesteryear. They both physically made me ill.
@Corrderio
Oh wow, how did I manage to forget about The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra? Been too long, sheesh! Those definitely belong in a list of all-time greats too, but I would describe them as more like anime (even though they’re not) than like “cartoons”, really. They’re closer to anime in terms of what’s appealing about them, I think.
Most modern cartoons are generally kind of bad, and there has been a noticeable decline in median quality over the years, but there are those in the modern era, including MLP, that reach heights I’ve at least never personally seen from old cartoons, which were typically stiffly animated by comparison (due to the lack of modern techniques) and too focused on status quo/random shenanigans instead of character or plot development. Off the top of my head, the two big ones I’d put on the same level as MLP (give or take) are Gravity Falls and especially Steven Universe. I’m open to the idea of older cartoons being as good as these three, but I’ve never personally followed one that was, largely because back then you didn’t have the option of just watching them all in a row at your own convenience.
And, y’know, cartoons that aren’t largely focused on funny psychopaths are kind of unusual in any era.
