The roc was kind of hoping YOU’d tell HIM that, actually. The formation scattered due to an attack on their henge; somehow, in all the confusion, none of the rocs noticed that an egg was missing until very recently. They have no idea who took it, let alone for what sinister purpose.
Several of them are still out searching, by tracking the energy emitted from the baby roc’s explosions; it was pure chance that he found the observatory and the bat ponies first.
