Ah, yes, sorry, didn’t watch Disney or TD a whole lot as a kid. ^w^
My thoughts exactly. I wasn’t trying to imply 4.5 should be more girly, but a series shift yet in the right direction like Guardians of Harmony stuff.
(Also I think Kim Possible earns an honorable mention among that list.)
They could do like the pokemon movies, where the story is way darker and the action scenes is very well made and “violent” but still something kids could see without a problem
@aerion111
They’ve also the option of doing a G4 Tales as opposed to a G4.5, only in reverse, where G1 Tales was more slife oriented, G4 Tales (which’d most likely have a different name, to clarify) could be more action oriented. Not only to build upon Guardians of Harmony’s concept of a dual-gender IP. It’s known girls’ action cartoons are rather rare, but there’s a moderate amount of inspiration to be had: Sailor Moon, Totally Spies, Madoka Magica. Half-certain Code Lyoko had a comparatively larger girl demo. FiM has at times proven it can paint a good light over either gender, and if possible, so could its successor to a higher degree. :3
Because 3.5 was such a huge improvement on G3… :P
agreed
If such a thing required a series change, I would expect them to do it with G4.5 instead of G5. Reformatting the series from complete scratch has too many risks.
another reboot? man, i hope not
You know, G5.
Next series?
We’ll probably have to wait until the next series before we get that.
Yeah, i talked about it before. Something that would help is “continuation”, more episodes connected with each other
I hope so, along with other writing hardships listed prior.
One of the biggest things working against them is not fault based, but simply the show’s limits. The longest an episode can be is 40 or so minutes, and that’s often not long enough to create a balanced story with balanced characters, especially when a lot or premiers and finales have to devote a lot of their time to marketing driven conclusions. I know these restraints are a constant fact of the show, but its unfortunate how limiting it becomes.
If they managed to do that with sunset shimmer, then they can also do that with the new changelings. I agree, it wont be easy, but it is possible
I save the Unpopular Opinion thread for spit-balling theories and stating opinions that are actually unpopular.
People have extremely varied opinions on the success or lack of success of the Twilicorn plotline, but regardless I don’t think anyone would disagree that ‘Twilicorn’ drama never had a turning point the same way ‘Sunset Shimmer is a bad character’ drama did. We don’t have a ‘Neutral Opinion’ thread, so that’s basically that, and as for Season 7 discussion, King Thorax didn’t even speak one word in the finale, so its hard to say if the new changelings have any big role in S7.
In short…
Time slows down drama on what is perceived to be a mistake or bad writing by large enough part of the fandom to see a split, but it doesn’t halt it. The only thing that can halt that type of drama is widely regarded good writing that nips that drama in the butt. Pulling that off for future encounters with the new changelings is a tall order, it simply isn’t going to be easy.
I actually enjoyed reading your essay that you just wrote up, and I think it would also fit in well in the “Unpopular Opinion” thread or possibly the Season 7 discussion thread.
Your argument only has any meaning if one assume’s all your opinions on the show are right, and any ‘mistakes’ the show has made were never mistakes at all, since obviously the show can do no wrong.
We’re bronies. We can tolerate a flaw or two in the show so long as it overall doesn’t go completely to shit. But the vast majority, shockingly, want the show to try its absolute best. And we have seen some pretty shit writing in the premiers and finales as of late.
Your analysis is inherintely flawed. The vocal AND the non vocal can really hate a few parts of the show that have really shit writing and still love the show, and trust me, they do. Sometimes its not just the most stubborn people, often its just the normal masses stating what they believe to be obvious even if its negative about one or two aspects about the show. Do you think because Twilicorn drama isn’t constant means the majority like the concept? Of course not, they spend endless episodes trying to justify, make her transformation meaningless with Flurry Heart’s birth, and even Celestia is having less then optimistic thoughts about Twilight’s growth in S6.
Here’s a comparison Drama issue of what your comparison lacks:
The example of drama? Sunset Shimmer.
Sunset Shimmer was introduced in a mediocure first movie, and had a lot of negative words about her character since it wasn’t developed that well in that movie alone.
Then suddenly EG2 came out, and it ended. Not faded away due to not being topical, it ended, with the exception of infinitely fewer trolls. Good writing was what made the difference. It continued her character with good writing and the result was a resounding success. Her popularity is off the charts.
Such an event never happened for Twilicorn, it didn’t improve the show in any way or make the majority go ‘holy shit, yeah! Princess Twilight Sparkle!’ That never happened. And I don’t see it happening for the NuBugs.
As for the new changelings, my issue with them isn’t really their design. Its more along the lines that they were ALL instantly cured of destiny of hunger that was plaguing them for centuries, and possibly even more importantly, people are suddenly expecting them to be perfectly harmless citizens even though they’ve been taught nothing but Chrysalis’ aggression their entire life time. With the exception of Thorax, all the changelings know is war, feeding, aggression and deception. I’m not saying that can’t change over a long, long period of time now that they don’t have their hunger, but in the hive life, that’s literally all they know.
Are they now just cute little harmless bugs? Sure, if the transformation came with a magical lobotomy. And not with villains with inner conflicts, simply thousands of formerly aggressive grunts that suddenly tried a suggestion, and found themselves in completely different bodies.
Their eyes reminds me a bit of Espeon
At the time, few people saw an end to the Twilicorn drama, but as everything does, it came to an end. People really should excercise foresight and realize how pointless these drama wars are.
The loud are the minority of the population of any group of people who share a common opinion, and they’re typically also the most stubborn, so trust me, you’re not going to change thier opinion so why clog comment section after comment section. The vast majority of people who don’t like the designs will either soften up to them with further exposure come S7, or they’ll retain their opinion without forcing it out at others. Don’t humor the minority looking to feed the drama storm.
On topic, love the eyes. I wonder if the changelings will become similar to the Flutter Ponies of G1, now. Fairy-like race with mysterious powers. Can’t wait to see what happens in S7.
Hopefully cute things happen, I’m rooting for diabeetus. :3 Hug the Bugs!

There is nothing wrong with not liking the new changeling designs but here is some advice: it is better to phrase it as your personal opinion rather than trying to state your opinion as fact. That’s is whats causing us to disagree with you.
Okay dude, tastes are tastes. It’s fine if you or some other people don’t like it, as long as we keep it in the low profile and without starting a rebelion everything will be fine
All i want is a changeling civil war. Thorax vs Chryssalis

Rather, I merely wished to express my resignation that this particular author/artist I still like had chosen to include this change, which falls precisely within the scope of what comments are for.
Apparently, the way I phrased it lead to it becoming a discussion anyways? Or is it just no longer allowed to disagree with the nubugs being okay?
Edited because: Minor orthography
Guys, relax a bit, eh?
Yeah, I agree with your general message of ‘Oh come on, the new changelings are fine, stop complaining’, but…
Well, it’s pretty obvious there’s something weird to Silver’s word-choice.
My guess, he’s using a persona of a changeling, but it might be some other persona.
As a general rule, you’re much better off not getting too pissed off at people using obvious personas; It’s just a waste of time.
(‘Course, now watch it turn out to be wrong and Silver just has a naturally weird way of writing <.< It’s giving me that ‘has a changeling character they’re somewhat protective off’ vibe though)
