Description

Being a brony for over 2 years, I have met alot of great and nice friendly bronies, one the other hoof, ive also met a few who just seem to not care about friendship, and theres the few who only do it for a the rp. I just hope the majority of us stay true to what has formed this amazing fan base that has helped me thru my life, always making me have a smile on my face.

No, Mari’s wrong. The whole idea is that it’s a vacuum engine.

Wait, and did you seriously think it was for anything other than space propulsion? Of course not!

Its thrust is tiny, but its thrust per Watt is actually comparable to an ion engine - a type of propulsion regularly used in spaceflight for unmanned missions. Your comparisons are missing the mark entirely because ISP is often more important than thrust in spaceflight, though you probably don’t even know what ISP is without googling it.

It’s specific impulse, a measure of the fuel efficiency of the engine, and for the EmDrive, it’s infinite.

And yes, the concept is flawed, fatally so, because it should be impossible. But it seems to work, anyways. That’s kinda why it’s a big deal.

Wait, what? It doesn’t even work in vacuum?

Now I know how the Greeks felt with the aeolipile. “Well, that’s neat, Heron, but what the hell does it do?” Gonna be another 2000 years before we find a practical use for this crap.

The numbers are around 100 millionths of a Newton per 100 watts. My breath alone could produce nearly a hundred times more thrust than that. Even if it was improved by a factor of a thousand, it’d still be beaten by a household fan. It is also useless for space travel as it needs an atmosphere to function. It’s a flawed concept to boot.

Far more useful a comparison: that’s about a tenth as the lower thrust end of ion engines. Pretty darn low.

But if they could figure out the physics behind it, they could potentially make these things more efficient. And who the heck knows what physics could come from it.

If it’s legit. Still not proven. But definitely warrants a flight test to really test it.

’Zat right? (google) Huh. 1.2 mN/kW. In other words, 1.21 jigawatts would generate 1.4 kilonewtons–less than an amateur boxing punch. It would literally be more efficient to pay Manny Pacquiao to uppercut things into space.

EmDrive, Alcubierre Drive, SpaceX (reasonably priced space tourism in our lifetimes) and their colonization of Mars, NASA now locked on Mars, advances in Semiconductor technology, rapid advances in automation and robotics - it’s a pretty amazing time to be alive, really. To say nothing of the existence of the internet and software which lets anyone be an artist, writer, etc. Without lots of expensive equipment. And airliners are awesome. And cars are everywhere.

Personally, more just me, I freaking love how much modern physics I can read and learn about.

Confirmation bias is a topic. Though I may have been a dummkopf a number of times even in the last month, underplaying and underappreciating any little good thing won’t help your words here. Sure you may have seen something already good years ago but it’s still good now, just… You already knew it. Maybe something’s not as big of a deal later on but it’s still valuable in its place. And now here’s the analogy that bread to a starving man makes a big difference, not so much to one who already had food.

Cars for one thing have been getting a whole load safer to crash in so surely not all is horrible. The last ten to fifteen years have shown an improvement in communication better now across the planet than it’s ever been in the previous 2,000 years. Surely anyone looking could feel out little problems easier now so “it’s getting worse” but really, if you’re only realizing what was already there what then?

They’re fine when in moderation… But you should also never stop exposing yourself to ideas that make you uncomfortable - ie, hugboxes aren’t too bad, but echo chambers will destroy the world (see: the violent reaction of the left to Trump’s election, probably mostly as a result to their echo chambers that created hysteria around the man).

There’s the point exactly; an anti-raging revenge, getting away from the cycle of undesirable what-have-you without ill effects and remaining away. I may not get all of that in MLP but it helped. To be simply spoken, sometimes I just need a smile to remind me… A smile from Pinkie and without anything attached.

Im not sure how arguing in the comments on the internet defines real life friendship. I highly doubt there are many people in the community that would turn down the offer of friendship in real life. Friendship was never the basis of our fandom it was our mutual love for technicolor ponies and that is very much still alive.

People saying that there are these a-hole bronies being d-bags and “ruining the fandom” has actually ruined the fandom for me. I can’t help but feel the people complaining are just a buncha wussies who don’t truly appreciate freedom of expression.

While I understand what you are saying, it just feels like the good Bronies are just a huge minority these days. And it gets worse every year as the good ones “leave the fandom” cause of the douchebags.

Just had way too many bad experiences, I guess. Have some Brony pals who are nice people and they found me cause Bronies around them were douchebags, so obviously I am not the only one with a similar experience.
Ferrotter
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Then, I figured out that most “Bronies” in power everywhere are sociopathic douchebags with power-crazy issues who love to stir up drama for their amusement and hurting of people around them.

There’s a saying among professors, “Academic rivalries are so vicious, precisely because the stakes are so small.”

There are no bronies in power. Like, none. The bronies who have real power in other spheres of their lives are too busy with those responsibilities to bother cultivating power among bronies. There’s no power there of any importance to cultivate. So what you wind up with is a handful of utter nobodies, who have nothing to their credit aside from their status among bronies, often being the ones to chase after and obtain positions of ( very relative ) power among bronies.

I’ve known many good bronies in leadership positions. Usually they wound up there not out of a desire to, but because nobody else stepped up and they just didn’t want to see something they loved die. And usually they burn out on it after a year or two. If you don’t get off on being a gigantic plothole, being in charge of something isn’t fun. The good ones also aren’t glory hogs and they’re hard to see; you may not even know they’re community leaders until they no longer are. But you’ll definitely see the others, the ones scrambling for titles and authority, making it known that they are the bigshots, enforcing their petty rules with the “do it my way or I’ll take my ball and go home” attitude of a spoiled toddler. Many of them are probably decent people in other areas of their lives where they’re comfortably the omegas of the pack. But give them a taste of authority… Well, there’s a reason slaveowners left discipline up to a few slaves appointed as “overseers.” A petty tyrant with a slight taste of authority and the fear of losing it will be far more reactive to a challenge to that authority than a leader with real authority will ever have the stomach to be.

“King of the Bronies” is roughly the same real authority as “King of a pile of horse manure.” But if you’re King of a pile of horse manure and that’s really all you can ever aspire to, you look downwards and think, “I’m so much better than the pitiful peasants of a pile of horse manure!” So of course they’re going to glom onto that one bright distinction in their mother’s cheeto-dust-filled-basement life with the fury of a mother Ursa Major defending her Ursa Minor. It’s just human nature; it’d take a true saint not to. Power corrupts.

Don’t let their failings corrupt you. There are lots of good bronies. They’re less visible than the King of Horse Turds, but they’re plentiful in the fandom if you just walk off the edge of His Majesty’s turd pile and look where the good ones are.

I wouldn’t get to worked up over it friend,I’m friends with a lot of bronies and pegasisters who have the taken the show’s ideals and morals to heart but not everyone is perfect and not everyone is the same, there is always going to be at least a few bad apples no matter what fandom you become a part of. You know what I recommend, I recommend ignoring those bad apples and just chill out, stay positive, and hang with the bronies that do hold the saying “Love and Tolerance” to heart.

While for me, the bad ones aren’t in it for the RP(1), but rather are hateful towards even each other and more moderate fans like myself(2).

––––––––
(1) I wish I could find a few, I have a setting in mind and need to convince a friend to join in.

(2) Not towards me in particular, but I’ve seen many “bronies” be needlessly vehement in their defense of the show.
