I came here to complain about how badly this terrible description of Chernobyl triggered me for how wrong it was (I can’t believe I come across people who think this is what happened - who think that meltdowns are nuclear explosions), but then saw the comments set it right, and harmony was restored in the universe.
Well, no. A neutron bomb doesn’t necessarily spew a ton of elemental radioctive matter, just mostly neutrons. Designed as a quick biological killer. A dirty bomb, on the other hand, is designed to spread as much radioactive material as possible, which, unlike pure neutrons, can settle and spread far and wide. A single massive burst of neutrons destroys molecular bonds nearby, while radioactive material continuously pumps out a steady stream of neutrons to anything it gets near. Which is much more deadly as it lasts for years.
So no, it isn’t like a neutron bomb. You need fission or fusion for that, which a meltdown has none.

Neutron bomb
When the reactor melted down, it overheated the steam and blew the lid off the reactor. The rush of oxygen ignited graphite blocks used to moderate the nuclear reaction, which caused a fire. The fire is what spread the radiation, not the explosion.
Do your research.
Yeah, it was pretty much a dirty bomb. Very little fission and a ton of spreading radioactive waste.
The core exploded. If you look at the building itself there was definitely an explosion. It was just small when it somes to nuclear explosions
