I think they said they used a male model to dress up and pose as Simon Belmont holding Dracula’s severed head on the cover. He was actually quite scary looking himself. lol

The old clay model covers were some of my favorites, though I didn’t subscribe to NP until 1997.

The ’80s & ‘90s sure were a different time weren’t they?

Anyone ever see the notorious “nightmare fuel” cover for the second issue of “Nintendo Power” magazine featuring “Castlevania 2?”
(Back when NP used to have to make their own covers from scratch using live-action, or clay models. They said they actually used a REAL cow heart on it.)

Not to mention, the other Rated R movie references like Pound Cake on the ceiling, or the Big Labowski ponies.

It’s nothing new to animation. “Garfield & Friends,” “Tiny Toon Adventures,” and such, referenced Rated R movies too. Some oddly were even made into children show adaptions like “Police Academy,” “Robocop,” and “The Toxic Avenger.”

Another day, another Shining reference in a show about cute little pastel ponies. (No, really. This is at least the second reference, with poor Danny staring down a Smooze-ful door.)
