nope, fairly sure my headcanon is the only explanation for everything ever. cheerilee is a time traveller reliving her glory days in the past.
In terms of ages I do personally like placing Pinkie and Rainbow among the younger.
I used to think of Applejack closer to the older, but her being young too isn’t that out there~
Personally think: Fluttershy, Rarity among the older. Then perhaps Twilight and Applejack close behind. And then Rainbow and Pinkie as the youngest. But there’s no real solid proof for it~

This image proves Rarity is older than Applejack since Cheerlee is. And about the cutie mark flashback, despite them being the same size apart from Fluttershy some of them is most likely closer to growth spurt than others. Applejack just looks really young when she got her cutie mark and her legs looked smaller than Rarity’s did so I can see her being one of the younger mane six, if not THE youngest.
Or they are different ages and all developed differently.
the sonic rainboom actually lingered in the atmosphere for 20 years, during which the mane 6 got their cutie marks at wildly different times. none of them are aware of this.
Not sure how, seeing as Rarity (and the filly whom was possibly Cheerilee from Rarity’s school play) looked the same size as the other Mane 6, minus Flutters.

How is Applejack proven to be the same age as Rarity and Cheerilee. This gif prooves Cheerilee is older than Applejack meaning Rarity is too.
Fluttershy did mention she was older then Pinkie, judging by how she looked in “Cutie-Mark Chronicles,” she may be the oldest, or just went through an awkward early growth spurt.
But in Cutie Mark Chronicles, Applejack is the same age as Rarity and Cheerlie.
Cheerilee was in Rarity’s class, so she’s Rarity’s age. That means Fluttershy is oldest and Rarity is second.

She said she was only “a li’l older” then Bloom, so I’d say 13, or 14. Bloom is probably only 10, or 11 now. Mac also seems to be in his teens, though still pretty big for his age.
If I were to give an estimate, I’d say AJ is 16 give or take 1, Cheerilee is 17-18.
Or at least older than Applejack. Or maybe she just went through puberty faster.
