Yep, those notes are totally legit. Nothing strange about them at all.

At the first Brony Fan Fair, a girl acted like she was trying to pay for a couple of my badges with printed-out 1 bit and 5 bit bills that had Celestia and Rainbow Dash on them, but then she left ordinary America Dollars on the table too and ran away before I could tell her I would totally have accepted her counterfeit Equestrian money instead because that was awesome.

There was an artist once who used handmade currency that were basically art pieces that didn’t resemble real bills at all to “pay” for items at various stores, in San Fran IIRC. I can’t find the story but I’m sure one of you can.

I don’t see how it’s counterfeiting. I mean, it’s not legal tender, but it’s also not trying to pass itself off as real money.
 
Maybe I’m just reading too much into it. The stuff on the note sure seems to imply that it’s counterfeit despite obviously not being normal money.
