Proportion wise, maybe, but the mane in my opinion with Celestia, is considerably worse.

I actually agree with you on this. 2015 Luna section looks far better compared to 2016’s, though 2016’s Celestia looks better than 2015’s. The artist should really combine the two.

Luna took a complete 180 in my opinion, where the lighting in the 2016 drawing is too overdone to look good. Her pose got less interesting and her expression is much less interesting as well. 2015’s colouration is much softer on the eyes and uses less extreme colours like pure black, which honestly doesn’t flow well with the whole “shadow” thing you’re doing. Celestia’s mane is much more artificial looking than flowing, and the sparkles on the 2016 version are a bit of a joke. Celestia is missing her tail and cutie mark in the 2016 version as well.
 
And don’t get me started on the light Luna is casting in the 2016 drawing. 2015’s Luna shine looked somewhat like a star system, adding in a bit more character and interest in the overall drawing. 2016’s Luna shine is a blob with the blur tool circled around it a couple of times, with nothing else there to make it remotely interesting.
 
Sorry, but 2015’s is much more diverse and interesting.
