No, the water does have to enter the compacted space-time that is Luna’s mane first. Any relativistic shenanigans that seem like they go backwards in time usually have a non-intertial reference frame in there somewhere, invalidating the logic chain. Same reason the twin paradox isn’t actually self-contradictory. The twin in the rocket has to turn around at some point.

I’m not sure that’s how space works, but then again I’m no black science man.
The water is falling though a lot of very tiny light-years, making it wet much in the same way the space an ocean occupies is wet.
