I just realised something,  
that “scary” tongue hiss is something thorax does in the presence of a lot of love and the grubs are doing it non-stop here…does that mean chrysalis does love her children?

It’s creepy and makes my skin crawl

Having just watched it, Thorax called the place “The Nursery Hall”.
 
And he makes mention that he was raised by an evil queen (but not that she was any of their mother).
