I don’t know, I kinda liked the mystery & subtlety of King Sombra personally. I also liked Tirek even if he was kinda a typical power-craving villain. Still, the villains do feel a bit ignored in some ways.
We never really get to see villains come back in the show, (aside from brief cameos) so I don’t mind them coming back.
Though, I didn’t like the comics bringing back Sombra, (as it kinda cheapens his on-screen demise) and I hear they kinda turned Sombra into a watered-down “not-really-a-villain” villain.

IMO, Nightmare Moon was never really well fleshed out as a villain in the show. So I don’t mind seeing her again if she tries something different or sheds more light on the character.

I feel like the show is not doing a good job with the villains. I know a few are impressive, but the rest are not that fun to watch. But that’s just me.
At least the show has been very careful on this. We have a different villain for each season (How good or bad they are is up to you, of course) so at least’s not getting stale in that regard.
I mean…yeah Nightmare Moon is fun and all but how many times they are going to bring her back…that how most shows start to fall ?, when they start recycle villians and show them on every occasion
