Well, some people do treat books with care.
A certain MLP blind reactor was horrified whenever Twilight mistreated hers - especially a certain scene where she sticks her horn through the spine of one, but also just generally every time Twilight starts a ‘Let’s re-organize!’ session by dumping every single book on the floor, most of which land open and likely damage their spine.
There are people out there, though I personally am closer to Twilight’s views on it, that actually view books as representing the knowledge, rather than merely containing it; To destroy a book is to disrespect something that someone put a lot of work into making.
Plus, they likely have had a lot of happy childhood memories of books, so it’s a bit like seeing people tear apart teddy bears and other stuffed animal toys, when you had several you were quite attached to as a child.
Well, what would she like them for other than their content? Book forts?
Well, she also seems to mention the books more than the knowledge.
The way she treats the books (dumping them in a pile on the floor and so on), I do agree with you; She doesn’t seem to treat the books with any respect beyond their use as sources of knowledge.
But then we get yet another ‘Books!’ moment.
