In short, James Rolfe calmly explained why he doesn’t like the new Ghostbusters, and said he’s not going to see it, and not going to review it.
The internet responds by freaking out and insulting the living hell out of him, calling him sexist, racist, misogynistic, all manner of offensive synonyms for “nerd”, etc. etc. Nowhere did he say he doesn’t like it because it has female characters, mind you. He never said anything about gender. And yet, all of the raging SJWs were crying “SEXIST MISOGYNISTIC NECKBEARD rants and raves about the new Ghostbusters!!!” and such at him. All because he dared to criticize something that featured female characters.
And Patton Oswalt joined in with the insults, albeit with a single tweet, but still.
So yeah, that’s just another little thing that makes me kind of wary of this episode. I feel like it’s going to be another episode centering around cringe humor, with this new character being an overly-exaggerated “critic” that throws hissy fits over everything.
Said “critics” are honestly very, very far and few between, but since they’re a vocal minority, they tend to give every other critic a bad name, and in general, people don’t seem to like criticism. I’ve had times even in this fandom where I just briefly explained why I didn’t like the episode, and got responses telling me to “stop hating”, and “leave the fandom if you hate the show so much”. So an episode about an overly-exaggerated critic…yeah, I’m really wary of that, because it’s just going to help perpetuate this anti-criticism mindset that already seems quite prevalent in society.
