How about the fact that Krystals are violet/purple, not pink? As well as her body being full blown blue instead of teal?
But that won’t stop it from being hard to tell with fanart who’s who, if all we have to go on is that one has slightly pinkier spikes than the other.

Pink and teal are more reminiscent of G1 colours. However, G1 colours still work well with G4 designs. Alpha sketches of Posey and Surprise with a fanmade colour job look great. Which makes me think of what FiM would look like hand drawn. Or Tangled, which is another topic. X3

Honestly doesn’t matter, looks significantly better and distinguishes the characters.

Thus it comes full circle. Fan Artist uses base spike, makes an oc based on a Hasbro Character. Chinese restaurant finds pic an re colors (bad printer is just an assumption at this point), Larson finds said character, since was based on Hasbro Character, Larson, who is the most canon of the bunch in the circle jerk calls her Dim Sum officially on Twitter. Dim Sum is canon name.
Well,.. Hasbro didn’t “steal” it. It was some Chinese tit with an internet connection and a dodgy printer… that colour was not intended, it’s the result of bad printing.
Don’t congratulate the chinese restaurant, they are using someone elses free artwork to improve their money making venture (I think it got used on a kids menu).
Of course the original source material, mlp stuff containing Spike, is owned by Hasbro anyway!
Actually, it was Princess Sally Acorn, and those colors were the ones used in the pilot episode (and the first issue(s) of the comic), before they made them less pastel for ensuing episodes. The fact that the comic tried to hand-wave the different coloration as an accidental bad dye job was hilarious, though.
Archie did/does a Sonic the Hedgehog comic, in one issue the colours were wrong for one of the characters.
The characters themselves “hand-waved” it as falling into a vat of dye.
